Will overfilling during a coolant flush cause a spill under the car? Need ans. fast!!

I'm doing the coolant flush as you read this. My concern is that after I let the car idle to flow the coolant and what not, there was a big puddle underneath my car. Basically it was coming from the overfill tank. I didn't take out what was in the tank before I started. I drained the rad. and the engine block, let loos the coolant hose on the TB and began filling her up.

I was using the robinette directions, and I neglected the fact that a car can only hold so much coolant/water. I poured in about 1/2 gallon of coolant, and about 2 1/2 gallons of distilled water, oops did I put toooo much, and will that cause the puddle underneath my overfill tank????

Need some responses asap! Thanks.

You got three gallons to fit in the cooling system? I was only able to pour 7 quarts, and then another pint after warmup having emptied the radiator and engine block.

I would say the answer to your question is yes, only I'm wondering how you could have gotten that much liquid in there. Once pressure forms (and heat causes your coolant to expand) you will see fluid exiting the overfill tank, especially if the system is overfull.

I accidently did my first flush with the radiator filling cap off, and once the thermostat opened fluid started kicking out of the filler cap pretty bad. I shut off the engine immediately (I was sitting in the car watching the fluid shoot out...), and it didn't overheat (I only lost about a quart). I always flushed under pressure fr
om there on out though and didn't have any problems.

Hehehe, oopps , my bad. Hopefully I didn't hurt her. What was going through my mind was..."Theres always room for jello? Well, then theres always room for coolant?" Ok ok, no more for now, I'm gunna do a little light test drive, to see how shes doing.

Btw, I'm also gunna do an oil change. Do you guys think 2 cases for mobil 1 15w-50 is enough? Thanks.

Not to worry, although I'd try and siphon the coolant out with a fish tank hose or something cause 1. It makes a mess and 2. Coolant is flammable. The way the overflow tank works is you can't fill it up to the cap, there's a hole lower down and it'll start pouring out if you overfill it, so thats whats happening there.

Yeah. Thanks for the help guys. I just brought the car over to a friends house. He checked out the car and said, "Thats what you get, ya dumbass. You overfill, you're gunna see it spilling out. Just drain some of it out."
