Will I pass smog without an air pump? (new subject)
OK well my air pump is not working and I dont care to fix it, because I have heard that RX7's can pass smog without an air pump, but with a high flow after market catalytic converter. I have even read reviews of people who have removed the air pump and installed a high flow cat, and have successfully passed smog.
I would just like to get some more advice and info before I decide to do anything. My plans are to get the car running right ( a/f at 14.7:1), before I replace my cats.I am keeping the air pump to pass the "visual inspection". Now my question is.....If my car is running properly, will I be able to pass smog WITHOUT a working air pump , but with an aftermarket cat that does not require an air pump to funtion properly?

1: There is an air pump relay, it would be simple to test it, there may also be a fuse. This is probably an easy fix
2: If your unable or unwilling to fix the wiring properly, wire in a 2 dollar toggle switch, or jump the air pump directly to power before you go on for the test.

Easy, just open the secondary throttle plates a small amount with the bump adjustment screw .The car will get more air and run lean at idle because the TPS will not know the extra air is there .I do this with my car to pass the sniff test and I have done it with customers stock cars that will not pass ,sec and third gens .

and for (slo) I did test the air pump relay and i got it to click when i hooked it directly to the battery, and there is a 15 amp a/c fuse in the circuit that I tested, and it turns out it was BLOWN, BUT I replaced that fuse, and the new fuse has been there for a while and it did not blow again which indicated there is no short to ground. After all this is STILL didnt work......????????? I dont care if the air pump never works again, my goal is just to pass smog =|

There's a law in California stating that you need to register your car within 20 days of moving into the state. I'm sure it's to bother those that registered their car out of state to avoid smog and so the state can collect dues.
From the DMV site: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...r9.htm#feesdue
"Commercial vehicles and any vehicle owned by a California resident must be registered upon entry into California unless a special permit was obtained. Visitors whose vehicles are properly registered to them in their home state may operate their vehicles in California until they:
* Accept gainful employment in California.
* Claim a homeowner's exemption in California.
* Rent or lease a residence in California.
* Intend to live or be located here on a permanent basis (for example, acquire a California driver license, acquire other licenses not ordinarily extended to a nonresident, registered to vote).
* Enroll in an institution of higher learning as a California resident or enroll their dependents in school (K-12).
Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.
NOTE: Nonresident military personnel stationed in California or their spouses may operate their vehicles with valid out-of-state license plates from their home state or the state where the military person was last stationed.
Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties."

That's a pretty standard law. It's like that in most states. 20 days from move-in date, etc, etc,
And all I'm saying is that I drove my 240sx for 5 years in Chicago w/ Tennessee tags and registration (got pulled over numerous times) and never had a problem. I've have been driving my RX7 here in LA area for 2 years with Chicago Tags.
You can do what you want but the law is the final say.
