Will I be ok? (coolant question)

I took the FD to dinner tonight, resteraunt was only 2 minutes away so I didnt push the car at all(shifted around 2900, no boost).

I let it idle for about 2 minutes before I went inside, and when I came back out an hour later, I started her up and got the add coolant light. Popped the hood and turns out the hose that is connected to the top of the AST had popped off. I managed to get some water from the resteraunt and filled her up.. Light went off, no problems.. I drove it about a mile and let it cool a little bit and then checked the level, everything was fine.

I'm thinking that it popped off when I was idling and then just kept flowing after I got out.

I'm going to drain and refill the whole thing tommorow, what % water should I use? The temperatures around here are about 40-55 this time of year.

I tried searching but had no luck.

TIA,
Chris

If the car ran fine afterwards I'd say you are alright. But, get a good clamp on that hose. And if that is the stock AST pick-up a good aluminum one or do the 'ole AST removal mod.

If you do a search in this forum you will find plenty of info on both.

You should be fine. When the engine cooled off, it sucked in air instead of coolant like it would've if the line had been on there. You'll have to monitor the levels for the next few days to make sure all the air is out. EVERY time you cool it off, open the AST, top it off if needed, then open the filler cap, and top it off. Make sure the overflow is at least halfway full, or up to the F mark if ****. You should refill with at LEAST 30% coolant, and 40% will give you insurance against nightly drops in temp It is Kansas, after all. And it will get colder. 50/50 is a little extreme, but if you want "to be sure"... When you fill, try pulling the TB rear coolant hose to let some air escape as you fill. It goes like: With AST cap off, TB hose pulled, slowly fill at the filler neck until the AST is topped off. Close the AST cap. Keep filling slowly until you hear the TB hose gurgle once. Stop filling for a little bit, then real slow fill. Another gurgle from theTB line and a little spit of green. Re-connect the TB hose. Just a little bit more into the filler neck, cap it, and start the engine. Let it warm completely, it will seem to takle forever! If you have a useful temp gauge (linearized stock or aftermarket) let warm to 200F. Turn the car off and let cool completely. Top off as described above, and heat cycle it again. Cool and refill, and you're safe to drive. Top off as needed (probably twice more) and all is well

Thanks for the help, that sounds like the best way to do it.
