Question Will downpipe pass emission test?

Need some advise guys (and gals). I want to put a downpipe on my FD, but here in Nevada we have to pass a fairly strict emission test every year to register the car for plates. Will removing the pre-cat screw me on this, or will it be okay? I'd hate to have to replace the pre-cat every year just to get the car's tags.

Will it pass the sniffer? Yes...if tested with engine is warmed up.
Will it pass the visual flashlight inspection? Depends upon the knowledge of the smoggies. There is no mention of the pre-cat on the underhood emissions label, but if they are rotary-knowledgeable, they can snag you knowing the car is equipped with a pre-cat.. Highly, highly unlikely. Be sure your car is FULLY warmed up to operating temps before it gets put on the rollers.

Yep. Sniffer is good, visual is not. Hopefully you will have someone who really does not care and does not look

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately, the only place in town that knows how to smog it is the dealer, so I guess I'm out of luck.

I just went to emissions yesterday, I have the original engine with 73000 miles on it, and yes I got a downpipe. I drove the car for about an hour before hand, and HOPEING I could get right in, I had to wait and sit in line for about half an hour, which is bad. Right before they did my car, I reved the engine to about 3 k, and held it there and went up and down in the revs a lil bit to see if I could heat the cat up. Luckily all was good, and I managed to pass C02's by .18 close but I still made it.

so try to get that thing hot b4 u get on the dyno
