Okay, I've got a problem. Its kind of hard to describe, but here goes:

One of the wheel studs on my rear right tire, has a stud that is "loose". What I mean is it is still connected to the wheel hub, because i can freely move/wiggle it around, but its not completely "broken" off Is part of the hub damaged because the stud is still attached to it? or do i have to get the entire wheel hub replaced or can i just put in a new stud?

just replace the broken stud with a new one. it costs less than $5

 

If it's loose, screw it back in tightly. If it's broke, replace it. Very easy!

Maybe im just stupid, but how can my wheel stud be "broken" yet it is still in one piece and is still connected to the hub? when i think of a broken wheel stud, i think of a stud that has been broken in half/off. Did something at the head of the stud break? I took off the wheel, but i really can't see it unless i remove the brakes. im just wondering because i thought the wheel hub was damaged (need to replace that instead of a broken stud) where the stud goes through thats why the stud is still connected, but loose?

 

If you look at part of the stud that is actually in the hub, its ribbed, and this keeps it from spinning. The stud is suppose to be pressed in, but you can use a hammer or use an impact gun to pull the stud together. What could have happen is that, if the wheel lug nut is over tighten, it could cause the stud to spin, and once its loose it will never tighten up again. If you plan on doing this its best to torque the axle nut, you dont want to use an impact gun on it, the shock is not good for the bearing.
