Wife wrecked the rx7

First off my wife is is ok although Im sure she will feel it in the morning.

Of all things a soccer mom in a Chevy suburban full of kids decided to run a red light.

Needless to say she had minimum damage and drove away while my RX7 crouched down and went under her truck far enough to crush the "A" pillar on the passenger side.
The damage is mostly on the left side.
Hood, fender "a" pillar, roof windshield, windows, etc.
Im suprised the Airbags Did not deploy.

My question is, does any one know of a body shop in the Plano TX area that I can trust with my 7?

I called Rotary Performance in Garland and they recomended a "Mr. Carshine.
Has anyone as Mr. carshine do any work for them?

On the bright side I guess its time to pull the vette out of winter storage.

Thanks In advance
Ken

Glad to hear that your wife is okay.

Any pictures of the damage? It sounds pretty bad. I'd like to see how a 3rd gen handles being hit like that.

Argh, SUVs always cause accidents. On a side note, have you seen those new Hummers? Those are starting to crop up everywhere and I'm sure accidents will be quite gruesome with those.

No pictures yet.
I wasnt with her but did see the car.
It went far enough under to twist/crush the "a" pillar
and twist the roof.
She did say she was surprised at how the whole car and not just the front squatted down prior to impact.
I guess the fact the it just came from the shop with new brakes and struts helped.

SUVs don't kill - stupid soccer moms that can't drive worth a damn do. I had a lady in a Suburban pull next to me at a stoplight a couple years back, brakes squealing loud enough to wake to the dead - and she looked over at me, grinning like it was funny. Thankfully the typical demographic of the Hummer is a 40ish male.

Good to hear your wife is ok. FDs can be replaced, your wife can't. BTW, if the SUV ran the stoplight, why is your subject heading saying your wife wrecked the 7?

Good to hear your wife is ok.

And for a bit of humor:

Cut her toes off for crashing your FD.

Maybe they need to pass a law making all these soccer moms driving full size SUVs get their CDL or something similar. That way they might learn to drive responsibly with that big pig of a vehicle they enjoy so much.

Why? It wasn't his wife's fault.

Anyway, back to the original question. If RP recommended the shop, I would say you will be in good hands.

My car was hit and run while parked last year. Tore up the left front fender, door and quarter panel. The front edge of the door was peeled back like a sardine can about 6".

Took it to Mr. Carshine after speaking with Chris at RP and Lance at LA Motorcars. They were happy to help me out and I was able to get extra work done that they didn't have to do. I recommend them.

Glad to hear your wife is ok.. The FD sounds pretty bad though I'd check with your insurance company and make sure it's going to be repaired first and not replaced before calling around.

Thanks for the kind words.
Your absolutly right the wife didnt wreck it.
Just thought I would get more views that way.

Ill have it towed to Mr Carshine in the morning and see if its fixable or totaled thanks for the referal.
To be honest I dont know what to do.
It will be tough to find another RX7 like it for at an affordable price so Im leaning toward having it fixed.
At the same time I really dont want a car that has been wrecked.

Some lady in an SUV just about hit me the other night too, but i wasn't in my FD. As far as having a wrecked RX-7, I wouldn't worry about it as long as you get a quality rebuild. I found out last month (10 months after purchase) my FD was totaled with 3K on her. Had a salvage title and somehow the owner had a new title issued while in Alaska. Aside from the lights/bumber alignment it's fine. And I'm sure that could be fixed with proper alignment.

So do you mean that it was a hit and run, or the SUV just wasn't damaged very badly?

Based on your description, I'd be shocked if your car isn't totaled. You might be looking for a new car.

I'm glad your wife is ok.

Actually I think they should pass a law that requires Insurance companies to charge SUV drivers 4 times the insurance rates that they charge for your average car since an SUV will cause far more damage to other cars in an accident then a car will.

Sorry to here about your car but its good to here that your wife is ok.
