Wierd tire pressure... hmmm...

Hi all, I was after a common-sense answer relating to tire pressure if someone can help me out, as I may have no common-sense myself (What can I say, I'm a computer nerd, so mechanics isn't native to me! )

Question 1) I have 255/35/18 Bridgestone GIII Rears, and 225/40/18 Bridgestone GIII Fronts. What pressure should I be inflating them to for daily driving? ?

The spec sheet on my car indicates 31-32 psi for 16", or 28-29 psi for 17", so based on the data alone you COULD in theory guess that pressure for 18" would be less - but we all know theory isn't necessarily good in practice...

Question 2) Prior to looking up this tire pressure data on my car, I attempted to inflate my tires to 32 psi. Problem with this was, the tires would bleed-off pressure until they reached 26-29 psi (I would inflate the tires to 32 psi, leave them for a minute, check the tire pressure again, and find Left/Rear = 26 psi, Left/Front 29 psi, Right/Front 27 psi, Right/Rear 28 psi). Would this indicate my tire valves are potentially stuffed, or is it possible that my valves are bleeding-off to this pressure for a reason (I can't imagine the valves are smart enough to be pressure-rated, but I'm just throwing this out there to clear all the "what-ifs" running around in my brain).

As extra information (useful or otherwise) I got the car from japan about a year and a half ago, have changed 2 x front tires only, not changed/replaced any valves...

Thanks for any answers/comments.

I'm no tire expert, another computer geek, but here in the US, we always change the valve stems when we get new tires. I would think that your valves are "stuffed" and need to be replaced. And yeah, I would think around 32psi would be fine. Anyone else got some answers?

Yes, just run 31-32 psi. Your valves are "stuffed". Anymore "keen" Australian slang you want to teach us...

Ha ha rynberg, I keep forgetting this is an 'international/us' website, so I tend to let slip with the aussie slang.

I would love to teach you fellas how to speak the king's english, but fair dinkum, it's time for me to roll out the swag and tuck-in before the mozzies start biting (This cryptic sentence should take you a while to figure out )

Thanks for the comments guys!
