Question wierd problem, please help

my car started acting up lately. like 2 weeks ago i would be driving and all of a sudden my check engine light will come on and then my car will stop accelerating, and when i push the gas the boost gauge will go up, but it wont accelerate. after that it either comes back and is fine, or it stalls out. if it stalls out the engine is flooded and i have to wait a while to start it back up. also if i park it and go into a store or something, and try to start it when i come out its flooded. i reset the ecu last night and took it for a drive and the check engine light turned on and off twice as i was driving but it didnt do anything (when it turns on, i floor the gas for a second it turns off) i went into wallmart and came out and it wouldnt start like it was flooded, like every time i try to start my car when its warmed up, it takes a while for me to start it cause its flooded (im saying its flooded cause it cranks, and some greyish white smoke comes out the exhaust and it smells like gas) i got my fuel filter changed recently, but i cant remember if it started doing it right after that or not. i have a power fc sitting in my room but i dont want to put that in until after i fix this problem.
thanks for reading,
Craig

where in virginia are you? im located in va beach. if your local maybe we can get together and try and troubleshoot this.

First off i would pull the code.. thats going to tell you whats tripped. if its flooded when you get back to the car after its been sitting you might have leaky injectors. are you SURE its flooded when you come back to the car? When a rotary has low compression it dosent like to start after its nice and warmed up then shut off. do a compression check just to be sure. if it builds boost and dosent make power..

A.) Super rich.. ussaly is black smoke not gray/white thats ussaly coolant or oil.
or..

B.) Somethings triggering the ECU to retard the timing like mad.

OR!

C.) Both..

ever since i reset the ecu, it hasnt done the thing where it stops accelerating, but the CEL has turned on 2 times while driving but it turns back off if i floor the gas pedal for just a second and let off. it still does the thing where its flooded and i cant start it when the car is warmed up. i pulled the code myself and got code #9 which is water thermosensor. could this cause anything like this to happen or is it something else?

YES...lucky you, atleast you were able to get a damn code. My ECU was jacked up and I had to do research for freakin 3 weeks before I found my problem.

Anyway, I had this same exact problem a couple of months ago. It's on and off, especially when the engine was at the "right" temp. It was the water thermoSENSOR.

If I were you I would also change the water thermoSWITCH while I'm in there...get the miata one.

would that sensor actually make much of a difference?

any other car, you can pretty much pull it out and not be able to tell the difference--other than fuel economy
