Question Why would my car run and not turn off while fuel pump relay is out?

I have a JDM 1992 FD3S Type-R. I pulled the fuel pump relay hoping to relieve pressure but the car will not stall. Warmed up, revs, etc. but exhaust overheat light went on. When I put the relay back in it keeps clicking on and off.

I did some searching but didn't work. Any ideas? I am totally stumped.

check for an electrical short under the fuel pump relay, or try to pull the EGT relay. You can also relieve full pressure by pulling the EGT relay. Weird problem, best of luck.

What have you previously done to the car? Can you read a wiring diagram? Did it just recently start doing it?

Maybe the previous owner did the fuel pump mod and rewired the fuel pump to turn on with the ignition . Follow the fuel pump wiring coming from the gas tank and see if you can trace it back to some sort of relay .

Thanks everyone. I will check it out today. It could be the rewire because he did the grouding mod(Guessing he wired up more things), catback, and I did the Trust airinx intake.

EDIT: Also the main thing I was doing was testing spark on each plug wire with a tester I bought. Car runs rough now but ran the same no matter which spark plug wire I pulled off one at a time. Weird stuff.

Checked everything out. Looks like it was never touched. Also I do not here any noises what so ever from my fuel pump. Priming or while running...
