why is it impossible to get new black carpet from the dealer

I have had new black carpet on order from the dealer for over 3 months now and they still have no idea when it will be available. The car is only 10 years old and is still very popular. Also, does anybody know what the difference is in the carpeting for the cars with a sunroof and the ones without. The dealer shows 2 part numbers, one if you have a sunroof and one if you dont. If you dont have a sunroof the list price of the carpet is like $300 dollars cheaper also. What could possibly be the difference, a reinforced floor maybe.

That's pretty crazy, I would think the dealer would still carry it. Did you try calling Malloy? They have damn near everything, if they don't have carpet, no one does.

Malloy can get it but its like $800 bucks!!
The difference is the small bolster that goes over the tranny tunnel. The no sunroof models dont have it.

I just ordered one from Mazda comp...

there are different serial numbers for cars with and without sunroof...however, the person didn't mention a price difference...

Also he stated that the inventory showed a net -5 stock...so there was a delay in making and shipping them...however, he quoted me 3 weeks delivery...

Also, compared to what I have read on the forum, the mazdacomp price was cheaper....

but still painful

( I ordered it about a week ago)

you know any interior shop can make that for you...all they do is pull it out and trace around it...cut it out from whatever you want as floor color carpet and its good to go. you dont have to buy mazda stuff...havent you all ever reupholstered an old car?

artguy,

are you talking about something similar to what gmonsen did?

It does look like a simple project, but I don't have the time or desire for doing it. Also, I know the stock carpet comes "molded" and wanted to slip it in with the minimal fuss.

If it does take more than 3 months to actually get the carpet, then the custom way may be the best...

do you have any suggestions?
(unfortunately, my carpet is already out and in the dumpster)

why would they go through the trouble - do they presume those shod with sunlight from above aren't as concerned about weight savings? Can you describe more specifically??

The stock carpet is on a very thick backing that is formed to match the floor. Upholstrey shops can't replicate it.

I was quoted about $400. I am having doubts about how it will look though.

Amazing, I finally received notice today that my carpet is on its way. It should hit the dealer in less than 2 weeks.
The problem was the manufacturing plant in Japan, but everything is resolved now, so if anyone needs carpet call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. Somehow he has connections. I have waited 3 months for this **** and havent been able to drive my cat the whole time because the dash has to come out to properly remove and re-install the carpet..

Yeah, but driving your cat was so much funnier.

Is it this hard to get new trunk carpeting too? I plan on replacing Bose eventually, and I'll replace the carpet at the same time with a non-Bose one. I hope that isn't as hard.

As far as the hatch carpeting, it would be much cheaper to have an upholstery shop make you a new one, they could duplicate the original very easily. There are no curved or molded dips and curves like the front carpeting. I actually removed my Bose set-up and made the carpet myself. Just make a pattern with card board and trace onto carpet of your choice and glue a pad to the back.

I'm surprised that some people are selling theirs (gut the interior for the track) Do you check ebay and junkyards? just a thought. I couldn't justify anymore than $300 for carpet. I would go aftermarket if you couldn't get it any cheaper.

So how much did you pay for your Mazda carpet? And which part # was it? Non sunroof or Sunroof?

Sunroof, and list is like $1200 but I get a 30% discount, so I think it will be around $850. It is a lot of money, but knowing it will fit like it should is totally worth it to me., besides, I checked for aftermarket carpet and found none. Ahhhh that new car smell.....Used is also very slim and you dont know if it stinks like mildew or is ripped etc. I opted for the sure thing...
