then he wrote "always inspired, tom matano" on my car. i felt like a school girl meeting a rock star.
i have wanted a fd since 1992 when they were on paper, in 93 i went down to the dealer and found out they were 38k. my dreams were shot. in 2004 i turned fourty and decided that "life was not" without my car. so i bought a beautifull black and tan. over three years it has now cost me 38k and i have no problems with that. there is an extra engine in my garage and when it is time, i will enjoy the time with (as my wife calls her) the bitch in the garage. the back roads of northern cal are always calling me and even though my new nickname is "assigned risk" i will always keep pushing faster. this is due to the shear joy of riding in an fd. nuf said.

goodfella's comment reminded me of somethin else i like about my FD, the reactions you get from people on the road. everytime i get in my car to go for a spin at least a few people always **** with me. it goes from your crappy cavaliers with fartpipes, old beater crown vics with the gangster golden rims, and guys in trucks. my fav part tho is when i shift at their open window while they mad dog me and they get an earful of my BOV, the expression they give is priceless.

people just do not know what we are driving alot of the time due to the FD's rarity, i like to think that it has a spirit within that just somehow taunts other drivers into behaving erratically with you. alot of the time i do ignore them tho for responsibility's sake but once in a while i feel i need to educate them as to what our cars can do. if it weren't for my modesty id be a really arrogant bastard with a fine machine but id rather not give us rotor heads a bad name in the end.

Ive never been to the states but from i just thought that FDs were common in the US. For a FD to be sold for 38K as someone said before, would be considered a cheap deal in Australia. They sold for over 70K when they were new and now are still fetching 30Kau which is now pretty close to the US dollar. But i have actually never seen another FD in Australia.

um there are actually less MK4 Supras then FDs. however i would say that the FD is a better car. its handling is so much better then that of the MK4. also its light weight and styling is superior to that of the supra.

supras are pretty rare too, where i live im probably 1 out of 4 FD owners around here until san antonio, austin, houston.

down here i have only seen 2 MK4's, a black one and a red one.a cocky gangster wannabe drives the red one.

he challenged us while in my cousin's STOCK automatic crappy dodge neon XD
its too bad i didnt have my red beast at the time, i would have taken up his challenge.

My wife rode back with me after returning our rental (ewwww G6). "This is a fun car" then she got pinned in the seat. I smoked a couple hatch backs and what looked like an NSX. Later, she says "Honey, I know you're a good driver but I think you should slow down in the mountains." Roads being Scripps-Poway Prkwy/67. I just looked at her and said "Dear, my car is a marvel of engineering with world class handling. Notice when you take a turn in our other cars (even the 8) how it leans? Notice how the 7 doesn't? Yeah, that's $$$$$" Too bad my clutch was going out on me. "Is that why it was going POP, POP, POP?" No honey, it does that because it's unburned fuel from the exhaust. If I rev it hard enough, it will shoot a flame. "ARE YOU SERIOUS?? Don't people at monster truck shows do that??" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Rotary power.... it's awesome.

There are no words that can describe the feelings I have for my FD. Its kind of like explaining colors to a blind person. All I know is that when I was first introduced to the FD in 2001 I knew I had to have one. Then a month later, it was mine, and the only car I will ever trade it for is another FD.

Yeah! In 2001 I was one of those guys that said "WOW! What kind of car is that"? "What's a rotary"? "You meen my CRX will never be fast"? Oh, and "Motor Trend Import Car of the Year" has got to say something for it.

Thanks everyone for all the info on this forum that has helped me with my baby over the years! Its saved me alot of money and head aches.

I remember my dad was driving me to school. He had saved me a new paper clipping that reported on the new RX7. The article stated that the FD was a true sports car and out performed the Porsche of that time. At the time my mom still had her 2nd gen and I loved riding in the car.

From her RX7 I was a fan of the car from the day she bought it. As a got older and under stood more about cars my love for the rotary and the RX7 grew. I have worked at a Ferrari dealer, a BMW dealer, and now a Lambo dealer. I still think that the FD can stand on the same level of any of these cars. Both performance wise and looks wise.

I have thought about if there are any cars I would sell my FD for. I thought a long time and came up with one car so far. I would sell my FD to buy a Skyline RB26. Of course I would get this car to were I want it and then go buy another FD. I would do this just for the fact of the performance and limited number of cars in the U.S.

Hands down the FD can be put next to any other car and holds it own. Weather the FD is next to an exotic or an American icon the FD will shine just as well.

I didnt bother reading the entire 4 pages here...

I am going to assume that the entire 4 pages involve you guys sitting around circle jerking over the fact the car has a rotary in it and that to you makes it "more than just your average sports car" and thats pretty much the only reason. If this is the case, how come no one is sitting around circle jerking over FB's?

The real reason its "more than just your average sports car" is because ITS PRETTY. It also handles very well. Its also light, tossable, and small.

The engine just happens to be in there too.

Seems like we share something! I also feel the "aura" you speak of, and it's a special feeling, reserved only for a special group of people. The RX-7 is way more than "just a car" to me, in fact, the emblem has grown to be a part of what defines me.

I constantly see guys in other cars staring the FD down, and an older co-worker seen the FD and said well, we know who has money around here(HA HA). I can't fill up the tank without some guy asking about the FD. FD ownership rules!!

I first wittnessed FD back in 1998 while i was in Dubai. My neighbour car dealer was unloading two FDs from the car carrier. Both were black and were in crappy condition(probably 93s) since color was faded. At that time i had no idea what exactly this machine is. To be honest i had machines that i thought were superior to any other car in our block, so i never cared.

After a week the curiousity intriguied me to wittness what those things really are, as i asked him to open the locks for me to see whats inside. And there i was sitting inside a FD. Red Leather Seats, leather wrapped streeing wheel and sunroof with cozy little sitting position it seemed like a fine German work of art. I asked him what is it (Manufacturer), and the answer was Mazda. I smiled at him like he was joking or something cause i had 8 or 9, 2 and 2 n a half ton light trucks by Mazda parked in my compound for sale.

He opened the hood and i saw some alien machine fitted with pipes above and alternator fitted in center. I asked him how many cylinders does it has? the answer was, i dont know. What cc? i dont know, its turbo though. Why cant i see the motor's head or valve cover? ans; i dont know. lol

Anyway, i first bought my FD in Pakistan. Nothing seem like it, no comparison. streamed line design with pop up lights with a low sitting profile, that gave a wide mean look. And my expression for the love of FD is never completed if i dont mention how it makes some hot chic riding in his bf expensive car with him with a 180 degree neck rotation. The expression at that time on her bf's face are priceless. Its like you have got money son, but i have style that speaks out for itself loud and clear.

i love my FD so much that my mum sometimes tell that you are married with it; hypothetically of course.

BTW this FD year 2000 is for sale in Japan, at VERY VERY LOW price(about 5000 US$ FOB). Engine is blown though but condition is immaculate.

I just remembered...I was at the local drag strip one night, and my buddy walked up and said he just saw two kids bowing down to my car, Wayne's World style, HAHAHA. It wasn't and still isn't in that great of shape either. I just thought that was so funny.

I usually get tired of what I'm driving or who I'm dating, pretty much stating that after a while I'll get tired of anything. I've had this car for over 3 years now and I still get chills driving it, or even LOOKING at it. I can't imagine my life without it, I don't know what I'd do with myself. It's been down for almost a year now, and the whole time I've felt like I've been castrated, I've felt like such a little bitch, all emotional and everything. But when I get back from the desert next week, I'm rebuilding the engine and adding a few things, and if everything goes well, it'll make me wet once again, haha. I flew out to Denver to get my car and drove it all the way back to NC. And hopefully, it will stay with me always.

I've only owned one for under 2 weeks, but it certainly draws more attention than an Mr2.

I've had 2 people say "Cool car, it's new right?" Even though the license plate says "95 rx7"

One day I was working under my Mr2 and I saw a kid drive into the parking lot, he got out, looked at the FD, and threw his hands in the air in open amazement. He walked over and started peering in the windows etc..

I guess it feels good that other people dream about the car I drive.

the reason i think that its one of the best sports cars. is the fact the way it handles. and the look you can put on the passanger when the turbo spools and they get that look on their face. and you say yea its only a 1.3 liter. but for me everytime im having a bad day just the starting of my FD makes me smile and laugh. because all of the trouble i have seem to go away when im driving down the highway knowing i can handle what ever obstical is thrown at me
