Clayne

I totally remember what you are referring to. And I'm glad we have that function,...but the non-specific titles are just making it harder in the first place.

Also, why can't the "pics of my body kit" "pics of my 99 body" and "pics of my new wheels" go into interior/exterior!!!

The purpose of the board IMO is to share experiences to help us all. We shouldn't segregate it into sections which only allow those deemed worthy to participate in discussion. We should however insist that posters overall exhibit some forethought with their questions and we should insist that the vast majority of this information be pertinent to RX-7's.
I agree. I don't believe segregating the forums among senior members is a real solution. However, some have stated it has worked on other forums well. How mature were the members of these respective forums? What was the average age group of these forums?

It seems one of the greatest issues raised thus far about newer forum members, is using the search feature. While I'm all for searching, I have to admit that it's not always the best solution to a users questions (however specific). As was stated, many myths exist with our cars, and searching rarely helps to discern the difference between fact and improper/incomplete information. I say this, because when searching, most users see it as a chore (which is why they create new threads to be given direct answers). As such, they look for the quickest answers, which usually end up being inaccurate. Some argue that they should search more in depth, but being realistic, this does not happen and its basically the same shyt, different laxative.

Regardless, many memebers also enjoy assisting those below them. Senior members do it as much as "junior" members assist the newer ones. The problem with this, is they usualy rely on the misinformation found in the threads they performed searches in, to attempt to educate other members. The vicious circle of misinformation spreads, often to the point where one of the senior members or moderators has to play cleanup (some of which respond with arrogant approaches that put off potential questions from other members in order to learn more). I think the first solution would be to make a more user friendly search system, or better yet, a complete, specific, and accurate FAQ system that is easily visibile. I agree with mahjik in this approach, and support his approach to his moderating duty.

For example, the very first post from this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...&highlight=wut

"simple newbie question on PFC & boost controller
ok...i looked over a cpl old threads, didnt c anythin really explaining my very simple questions..

1) am i correct in sayin that boost controllers are mainly used to control boost spike, vs. normal boost (wutever psi ur runnin)?

2) if so, are they very effective?

3) i have a PFC..i know you can set the boost usin the commander, and appropriate fuel maps, etc....but would u need a boost controller like the apex unit as well...to control boost spike? cuz i was told by a few ppl that my setup (intake, DP, MP, freeflow exhaust) im bound to get real high boost spike, and blow my engine. so...is that rite? (i dont wanna get a more restrictive exhaust or replace the MP w/ a high flow cat....and from wut i understand upgradin the wastegates will control boost, but not boost spike...)"

This kind of stupid slang crap WILL drive people to not reading your post, or not bothering to respond. Perfect example for needing a spellcheck. If you are so lazy that you cannot type out a full word, why should I take the time to answer your questions?

I think any time a member posts " check out my new wheels", "pics of my body kit", etc....these posts should either be made in "The Photo Gallery". After all, this is what that function was for.

The Forum

To paraphrase Jim Morrison

There are things that are known
And things that are unknown
and between is the forum.

(for those of you who don't know the original quote the last line is "and in between are the Doors".

The forum is where things unknown become known with the help of the entire community.

Since moderators don't get paid you "can't" actually make certain shifts that they have to be online moderating though. Just wouldn't be fair that way to glue someone to the forum for a set "shift". So really no way to secure that there will always be a moderator actually "moderating"

Lately I have been compelled to check the profiles and birth date section of unrecognized original posters on each new thread posted on the 3rd gen. section.

I admit it, will anyone else?

the best thing to do in terms of deleting newbie responses is create a REALLY good FAQ

what do you think about giving all people with 2k posts+ the option of deleting threads... or make a lot more mods to delete worthless threads... the faster posts get deleted, the better off this site would be in preventing trolling and dumb questions
