why do you think it is that so many people stop and take pics of your FD?
I was driving a friend of mine home last night, we where stopped at a set of lights and these younger kids (~17 or 18) roll down their window and snap a quick pic of my car. my buddy turns and tells me "dude thats so weird, dose that happen often?"
i tell him "all the time, i guess it just comes with owning the car, ive been parked next to Ferrari before and had people wanting to get pics with my car and could care less about the Ferrari."
he asked me "why do you think that is?"
i told him "im not 100% sure but i think that its because a car like 3rd gen RX7 is affordable / achievable for most people to dream about than a Ferrari."
thats my opinion, what do you guys think?

People stop and take pics cause it's rare. That's it. Period end of story.
I can't tell you how many times I had people give me thumbs up and ask questions and take pics etc then simply lose interest when i tell them its a Mazda.
I think the majority of people who have fd's is mostly for that attention, like you mentioned, that feeling of being noticed for a small cost as if you're rich owning a Ferrari.
While there are a TINY group of non fd owners who do appreciate the fd, make no mistake, people are NOT jealous that we own these cars. They show interest cause its rare, and cause it looks good still, not because of what it really is.

I dunno who can blame them. I walked back to my car own car and had to take a picture of it. This was a couple of days ago - I do it fairly often too lol.

i think a lot of people, especially rx7 owners really forget just how much more beautiful the FD is than almost all other cars.
a friend of mine's father, he's an artist (the guy is freaking loaded)...he told me that even as an artist he knows the FD rx7...its something that all artists know about this car...apparently in art, theres a certain formula that will make anything look good if it has the correct proportions...apparently the FD is visually perfect because its proportionally perfect
also it was rated by automobile as number 10 in the 10 most beautiful cars of all time

Vijay is it (Curacao) funny that you mention artists.
My FD is in rough shape still as I put it back together but when I had it up on Gainesville, on jacks outside my buddy's garage, a local artist stopped by to pick up his car. He could NOT stop raving about the look of the car and the flow and the design and the this and the that.
He actually came back a week later just to look at it and talk about it more.

It isn't as simple as the car looking great. Some Ferraris look great. What makes the FD special is that it's elegantly beautiful. When you look at an FD, it's smooth, slippery and incredibly simple. There isn't much you can do to simplify it's look any further. Nothing on the car looks to busy because all the details on the car appear to need to be there and that's what ultimately makes it timeless.

Even in Japan where they're a smidge more common because they're cheaper I get a good amount of attention from the locals.
I pulled up to a 7/11 type place on base to pick up some drinks and one of the guys there working the AAFES booth for selling American cars stopped me just to ask if he could get a picture, told me it was one of the most beautiful FD's he's seen, and that's how it should be done.
I've also become friend's with a Japanese gas station manager, he seems to recognize me as soon as he hears me. But I assume that more because he knows I'm there to spend money lol.
By far my favorite so far though is when I stopped to take a look at a new FT86 at a Toyota dealership at night after they closed up. I parked my FD on a side street right next to it, shut off the car and flicked my hazards and walked over to look over the FT86. When I started walking back to my car, I couldn't help but noticed how much cooler it looked that the 86. I also started hearing some little kids going "OOOOOH" and giggling. They see me walking up and give a huge smile and a hand wave start running the opposite the direction. As I bring the car to life and start down the street, I see the little kids in my side view mirror a few yards back stopped in their tracks watching me pull away.
That one made me fuzzy. 1, because I think it's awesome to get recognition in a foreign country, and 2, that was totally me at their age.

- I had a few stares, always wondered if they were looking at my car cause its dirty or its rare.
The only time my car get a wash is when it rains.
- As "1QWIK7" said only cause its rare.....Its a good looking car but compared to a Ferrari 458 no really.
- Also I wouldnt really call my car affortable With the problems it gave me before.

it always leave me with a smile when a kid tells me "im going to save my money and buy a car just like that"
reminds me of when i was younger, i replaced the lamborghini countach poster on my wall with a poster of an FD in 97 (9 years old at the time) only to replace that with a picture of my FD a few months ago.

The FD IS a GREAT looking car. That plus its rarity is the reason why people stop and stare.
Hell a C6 is a beautiful car too, as well as a lotus elise, an s2000, an M3, a CLS63 AMG etc but you dont see people stop and take pictures of those. Why? Because those are a dime a dozen.
I think theres a certain mentality people have with these cars. Our community, the supra community, the nsx community, etc.
Guys, WE DONT HAVE EXPENSIVE CARS lol. Can we please stop acting like we have expensive exotics?? lol
Our cars are a shade above 10 grand for gods sake. When people see our cars, its because it looks good and because its rare. Not because they think, "wow that car is amazing, i wish i can become rich so i can get one!!!" type of car.
A kid going into college can get a new civic and it will be worth more than our cars lol.
I admire the love we have towards these cars but some of the replies i been seeing (not only in this thread but recently over the past years), are pretty weird lol.

You did get a few things correct about the other cars you listed because they are a dime a dozen and NOBODY cares if they miss one passing because they will probably see another one before getting home.
You are WRONG about having expensive cars. You might have a cheap car but you can’t speak for everyone lol. Your car might be a “shade above 10 grand car” but that is not the case for everyone.
The whole becoming rich and owning a RX-7 quote is simply silly. Do you not understand that once you become rich it is time to run out and purchase a C6 ?
Another silly statement is buying a new Civic and it being worth more than an almost 20-year-old car, Really????
Your admiration and love isn’t enough to replace your constant confusion when it comes to these cars because you are clueless .

Your defensive post is confusing in itself, because you sound brainwashed.
We're talking about people who stop to take pictures of the fd, why mention the rotary engine and what the "rx7" means? That's irrelevant to what's being discussed. But you're probably using that as ammunition so people can come and side with you.
Also the other cars I mentioned. Yes you're right. No one would care cause its a dime a dozen and will see one going home. You're right. That just furthers my point. People see rarity and looks. That's why they stare and take pics. Uhh that was part of this thread???? Lol duh.
As far as expensive cars. I'm not blind. I know this market. I been here longer than you. There are obviously a good handful of people who have pristine fd's. Some people who put 20,30 or even 40 grand into their car. Guess what? That doesn't make them valued at 50k +.
How much is your fd worth? A new civic ex is a shade over 20. Is yours worth that? Didn't think so.
Look at the FS section and count how many fd's going for over 20 and being sold for that amount LOL.
k thanks.
