Well I finally am finished. I put everything back together except for the hood. I had to jump the car and was letting it warm up to see if I had any leaks. Well I had no leaks... HOORAY... however.... I noticed some smoke coming from the turbos. Not under boost just sitting there. Could I have done anything to jack it up? Oil not getting to the turbos? Or am I just over reacting and its either nothing or just an exhaust leak.... your thoughts....

If it cooks off in a few minutes you're probably fine.

Tried to do mine yesterday. A tip is to NOT install all the studs before you put the pan back on. The holes on the pan didn't align up correct with the long studs. Now I have to clean the engine again since I put the silicone on before trying to put the pan back on. :(

Yeah we ran into that issue the first time. Luckily we were doing a dry run and didnt have any silicone on it and saw that if your not careful and put the studs in the holes that it wont line up with the pan holes. I think its funny that they have more holes on it then needed lol.

On a side not I have been driving my 7 pretty much as a daily driver and havent had a single leak. Looks like my troubles are over...well with the oil pan atleast.

Ugh, I had mine up on jacks this weekend and mines starting to leak a bit too... I can't wait... You guys make it sound like such a joy.:(

so I've always used RTV grey for oil pans, water pumps, etc. It looks like the right stuff grey is prob. the exact same thing. If so, why the different products? And what's the difference between the right stuff black can and the grey one?

Why shouldn't we use the OEM gasket? It tends to leak? I hate to make gaskets...

running a consistent bead of silicone ONCE is a lot easier than having to replace a poorly designed gasket every year.
