Who's replaced thier 5th gear???

Has anyone around here replaced thier 5th gear syncro? How hard was it? Is pulling the tranny a must or can it be done with the tranny in place? I'm kinda just looking for info on what it involves and how hard it is. Is it a 2hr or 10hr job. Anyone around do it?

Thanks,
STEPHEN

I would invest in a shop manual, or DL the part you need if you plan on doing it yourself. I'm told it is a bit difficult and the tranny does need to be pulled. I'm planning on doing mine soon, so if you do it yourself let us know how it goes! Good luck.

Change the "shift select spindle" -easy- is a mazda recall, it will avoid to break your 5° gear synchro again.
It has a stronger spring that needs more force to be compressed, improving the shift pattern.

I waited until my clutch went out - had the clutch, flywheel, and 5th gear all replaced at once - all labor was covered since my warranty covered synchros Nothing like free installation
