I first saw the FD when I was a freshman in college.. in a magazine. Then saw it couple of times in ATL when I was in undergrad and I told myself I'll buy one when I was done with school (I was broke college student who had to pay my way.. unlike some of you with nice parents who bought you a car).

In 1997, I finally drove inside an 94 white FD. Friend of mine had an used car lot and I got to drive/rode in it. I REALLY wanted to buy one.. but I knew I couldn't afford one... So, I ended up buying an 1991 FC vert.

In 1999, I sold the vert to my girlfriend at the time and started searching for an FD/NSX/300Z/Supra... No, it wasn't because of the F&F.. Its was way before F&F existed.. I found an NSX in Indy, IN but the deal felt thru. Finally I found an FD in Nashville, TN (my home town) and drove down there to take a look. After driving it for a day, I paid in cash and drove it back to Cincinnati.... And now, I have owned 7 or so FD (now down to 3), have 8 13B-REWs in my garage, another 3 at my engine builders shop, 2 x 20Bs, 1 x 1973 RX-2 I'm restoring, 1 x 2004 RX8, **** load of FD parts to put 2-3 more cars together, and crap load of rotary related junk in the house.. All because of the FD

I bought my first RX-7 (1983 FB) because a racing friend told me that they could make a lot of power with add on mods, and it was in my budget. I just got divorced and sold my Alfa Romeo autocross D mod street car which did not have A/C.

I then bought the FD because it was the first stock RX-7 that was faster than my first gen.

when I was in middle school(1994) my friends neighbor had a 93 BB R1. I would go to my friends house just to sit and look at this car. I knew NOTHING about rotaries or cars for that matter, but I knew I wanted to. I just loved the way they looked, all generations.

Bought a 86 base in 01' and did the TII swap. Basically tore the car down and rebuilt it. Teaching myself everything along the way. Then I met Dale Clark, and he continues to feed me brain food.

Never really planned on buying an FD since my knowledge was deeply FC based, but a deal fell in my lap and I jumped on it.

So Phil, you got any interior parts and would you want to get rid of them, or are you actually planning on building an FD from scratch Dr. Frankenstein? LOL

being from Puerto Rico and surrounded by fast rotaries all the time made me want and later buy my first (12A 1st gen) with a Student Loan from College!

when that one got totalled (girl rear ended me and pushed me under a pickup truck) I got an FC

5 weeks later a bad electrical job by the previous owner caught on fire and burned the car down to nothing :'(

I was rotary-less for a few years until I started a good paying job and got my pride and joy FD!

HAHA!

Good point! That movie didnt influence me to buy an FD, but I did see it twice in the theater. My excuse was that it had an FD in it.

My first encounter with a FD was years back when I was 18 and had an old and very loud 1972 Chevelle. A very sleek looking car pulled up next to me at a stoplight and I, being 18, reved my engine. Both of us took off and he pulled several car lengths ahead of me before i even got through the intersection. That was the first time I ever remember seeing a FD - so that night I went home and started researching the 3rd Gen Rx-7.

Thats when I came across this car and I knew I had to get one. I put the chevelle up for sale the next week and bought my FD about a year later. To this day, This RE-Amemiya FD is my favorate of all time.

Simple California Air Resources Board....CARB.

Wanting a RWD turbocharged sports car in CA (that's legal) means that options are limited. Didn't want a 300ZXTT because a friend of mine had one and they are a huge PITA to work on. Couldn't afford a MKIV Supra and so I picked up the FD.

That's cool. Let me know when you're finished then, haha. And I wouldn't want any red in my interior anyway. Nothing against a red interior or anyone that likes it, it's just not for me, hurts my eyes, haha.

Damn dude, that's a pretty sad story, except for the end, haha. Holy ****. That's awesome, getting the car with a student loan, HAHAHAHA. But damn about the accident and the fire, wow. Glad it all worked out for you though. Good to know you're happy now. I personally would still be heartbroken over the loss of the other two, that's just me, haha.

I owned an FB from 1979 until 1993, so I was already a rotary fan.

In 1991, when the reviews of the FD started appearing in the car mags, I started drooling. That was the car I'd been waiting for.

When the 1st one (VR Base 5-spd) arrived in March 1992 at Cascade Mazda in Akron, OH, I went to see it and bought it. In retrospect, I paid too much, because the prices came way down within a year.

However, I sure can't say that I regretted the purchase. I love (almost) everything about it - its performance, looks, the stares and questions it generates from others, etc.

My dad had a fb when my parents were married. When my parents got divorced my dad sold it, but my mom married another guy who had a fc. He sold it when my little brother was born. So I had ridden in both the fb and fc, but never an fd. MY heart was set on owning one when I was older so it only made sense to buy a fd.

When I first saw the car it was in 93 when I was a sophmore in high school and someone drove up in a flat black with black tints and stock spoiler. I feel in love at that moment. I wanted this car that I thought at the time looked like the Bat mobile. In lat 95 I mad it a reality with my first and only FD. 3rd last made fort the US market. Haven't strayed ever since. Bigger stronger and more powerful.......

I've loved cars all my life, and I remember gawking at the first FD I laid eyes on. However, I didn't become infatuated with FDs by any means. I just appreciated the beauty of these cars, and it only got added to my endless list of vehicles I really like.

When I seperated from the Air Force in December 2004, I decided to treat myself to a semi-project car. I narrowed my choices down to a Supra TT or a 68-69 Camaro, and religously scoured the classifieds and internet every morning for about a month.

One day I saw an ad for a 1993 RX7. I knew what they looked like, so I decided to go check it out. I looked at the car and thought it looked really nice, but then I test drove it.... The test drive was what made me fall in love with the FD. Although I didn't buy that particular FD, I immediately began researching more about them. That's how I ended up at this site. After searching through this site almost non-stop for a couple of months, I finally took the plunge.

So the only thing to do 20 years later was to get another rx7. The FD being the pinnacle of rotary engineering was the answer. If the "FE" comes out someday I'll get that too.

Wow, that was 20 years old? You looked like a typical modern (21st century) kid back then!

Back in 1993 I went to an autoshow and sat in each of the topline Japanese sports cars available. The Nissan 300 ZX, the Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi 3000 GT and the FD were all sampled. In the end, I liked the FD because it felt the most comfortable and seemed to have the most leg room. It also looked pretty good from the inside and out.
