Question Who here is using Polyurethane motor mounts ?

What's the word on these for those who have done some research on this? I did a search and from what I gather....they are good but cause vibration. Also they will have to be greased over time to avoid squeaking ? For those of you using them what the dealio ? Thanks

I just had urethane mounts installed. The will vibrate the **** out of your car! But I don't care. I'm one of those performance at any cost guys. The only way I can describe the level of vibration, is that my car felt the same way when I destroyed a rear bearing. Or it's sort of like if you really bog a piston engine, the way it'll vibrate. It'll rattle loose change and loose screws. But everything is only at the 900-1200 or so rpm range. After that you won't really notice them.

So, not trying to scare you off. Like I say, it doesn't bother me at all, but just be forewarned that they are quite a bit harsher than the stockers.

I have Rotorsports Racing's polyurethane engine mounts, and they are very nice. There's a little extra vibration but not a whole hell of a lot. It was a very worthwhile upgrade when I had my engine out.

I just installed a pair, engine in the car.. I'm waiting for other parts to show up before I can fire it up, so I have no impressions as of yet. One thing I can say, though, is that because of how they're made they are essentially a solid mount in one direction.

(Huh, what'd he say?)

Brian's made them by passing a through bolt from the engine side of the mount, through the chunk of poly, and has that same bolt attach to the frame. This means that it will only dampen as the mount compresses. As it pulls apart, it pulls on that bolt and doesn't give.... basically solid.

Since the through-bolt is pretty long, I'm thinking about adding a piece of urathane or high density rubber to the underside of the mount.. so at least it won't be pulling on the bolt and has something to compress. We'll see..

Thanks for the replies guys. I read that the vibration will lessen after it settles in a bit. Is that correct ? Also, it seems like the major vibrations will be felt down low so that's cool since I'll be winding this biaatch out anyway. Jspec, I don't get the joke ???

Were the mounts expensive? I've seen them
go for over $200 for one(not a set of 4). Mine are currently all done.

If someone tells you that you need a set of 4 you might as well bend over because they are lieing to you. You need a passenger and a drivers side. Mine vibrated quite badly when i first put them in but after a while they eased up and I could hardly feel them. The initial shock of low vibration will scare you but the tightess in the tranny will wow you.

I actually think that I need the 2 mounts closest to the firewall. I'm pretty sure that Dave at KD showed me that the driver's side mount was all done. I'm also betting that I need the passenger side one(as everybody says that that's the one to go first).
I'll have Dave look at them before I make any purchases.
Thanks
Jim

different source

So other than getting a set of poly mounts from rotorsportsracing, are there any other places where we could maybe find different ones. Just trying to keep the options open. Or is rotorsports pretty much the only that carries these stiffer mounts?

A few of the Japanese tuners make upgraded motor mounts. Try the Mazdaspeed, Knightsports, R.E. Amemiya, or Panspeed. They all make quality parts, but will cost you a pretty penny. You could also try having a set custom made. New projects for our cars are always incouraged.

The urethane mounts were cheap, which is part of the reason I went with them. Sorry, I can't remember the exact numbers, but they were roughly $150 a piece vs something like $300 ea for the stock ones. Seems like they were about half as much as the stock counterparts.

My car came with the rotorsports mounts. I don't think the vibration is bad at all.

It is certainly not like my jetta with a poly rear mount.
