who has really good engine rebuilds?
I plan on buying a rx7 (3rd gen) with a fully rebuilt engine/trans....I dont know much about the car and what places or companys do the best job.
Can someone tell me some names of the GOOD shops?
I really dont want to get the car and have the notorious problems of the rx7. It must be reliable and fast! any suggestions?

Judging by your posts over the last few days, I think you are rushing things a bit. The FD is no Z28. You need to spend some time reading and researching this more thoroughly. No offense, but most of your questions can be more thoroughly answered by just doing some research rather than relying on people's quick answers.
Seeing you are only 17, I was going to bring up the typical money issues but it doesn't look like you have that problem....

.Personally, I don't think any 17 year old should own a high performance sports car. I bought my FD at 21 and promptly spun it out the first night I drove it

.Hopefully I won't be over here much longer. As the war winds down, boredom kicks in. It's good to be able to use the internet and post again, but seeing Gotham running with me stuck over here drives me nuts. Patience is something I have in short supply--ask anyone who knows me
.I'm planning on goin' back to Cali (to Cali, to Cali) sometime after I get back to the states.....we should get together and drink some beers and blast down the highway (not necessarily in that order though
).
I've heard great things about pineapple. http://www.pineappleracing.com/ProdSvcs.html
I'm very happy with my rebuild by Don Marvel at Marvelspeed. More or less local to me too, so available when I need advice, adjustments. Great install and custom fab work. Thanks David.
I've read bad things about Hayes, Atkins.
Mixed reviews I've read about KD Rotary, but generally good things.

Yeah I guess I can see your point about me being a young kid with a fast car and how many things can go wrong with that scenario...but I do have experience with fast RWD cars....My car with the nitrous at 150 shot puts 550 RWHP, so I know plenty about when to go WOT and when not to....My unlce had a twin turbo viper that I drove alot....im not saying I know everything about driving a fast sports car at all....but you just might be suprised at my driving for my age...so please dont think just cause my dad has money to buy me a fast car that I'm the typical rich kid that cant drive it.
(again trying to sound as nice as possible)
This is off topic from my original topic, but what does the rx7 handle like? a miata?

An Rx7 handles like.....a ****
.It's night and day from a camaro, I'll tell you that. 2800 pounds, motor at the back of the engine bay, 50/50 weight distribution, pulled 1.0 g on stock tires back in 1993. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
stik6shift00:
The "big guns" of engine rebuilders are probably Pineapple, KD Rotary, Pettit, and Mazdatrix. There are numerous "smaller" shops that do excellent work by accounts on the forum -- too many to list here.
Two large guys near you are A-spec Tuning and AIM Motorsports (or something like that). Ask around in your regional forum, people in your area will respond better regarding those guys.
As far as handling goes, the limits are high enough that you can drive very fast without ever getting yourself into trouble. A lot of people have lost it in these cars but they are actually pretty forgiving with virtually no handling vices (in stock form). I just went to my first auto-x last weekend and was very surprised just how catchable the car is -- at lower speeds anyway....
BTW, the reason I said this car is no Z28 is because I think these cars take a serious committment to own -- and a slight case of mental illness....I think the vast majority of other FD owners would agree with me. You are going to a car that is several times more complicated to work on/troubleshoot and there are VERY few people who have the knowledge to work on them. Parts are also extremely expensive. As an example, a very typical problem is bad rear suspension bushings. This will be around $800-900 JUST for the bushings!

I got mine at 16.5, and didn't go wot until a few months after. I also learned to drive a manual tranny in that car ( self taught). I was very careful not to race it or take it anywhere near its limits for a while, and the only body damage done to the car was caused by a jeep wrangler who locked up in the snow and hit it whilst I was stopped. Rotary Reliability and Racing (Racing and Reliability?) does good stuff from what I've heard, and the owner is a good guy, but as to where you live and prices, I don't know what would be best for you. I have owned mine for close to two years, and have spent several thousand just maintaining and repairing it. But to me, and most everyone else here, its worth it, and personally, I don't plan to ever get rid of my seven. Josh
