...there's just something wrong with that. If I'd wanted a Vette I would'a bought a Vette. I did see an interesting swap on eBay where a guy had put a Buick GN 6-cyl (turbocharged, of course) in his FD. With that engine tweaked pretty hard he was way down in the 10's and the whole deal fit behind the front axle....but it still seemed a little perverse. Some kind of twincam would make me feel less...dirty...about the whole prospect. But no, Mazda built it with a Rotary. It should stay rotary. It's not like Mazda doesn't know how to build piston engines. They made their bones on Rotary engines...and having the minerals to come out with a convertible sports car when all the pundits and marketing chumps said it wouldn't sell. Zoom Zoom, indeed!

+1 for Rob Golden Pineapple Racing.
He built the motor in my 3rd gen about 7 years or so ago, and it has been autocrossed every year since then, at 13.5 lbs of boost, single turbo and water injection.

The motor has been the single most reliable part of this car.

i think there are quite a few of them up for sale on here right now. Remember something about IRP having a few for sale not sure if they all sold and theirs another guy that has a few as well. I can't remember his name but I remember them being priced to sell.

 

I can build you a motor with anything from stock to full race, and everything in between. 1 year/12,000 mile warranty on all work. There is a HUGE variance in quality between different shop's builds. I will say that with my builds we replace ALL seals, springs, gaskets, orings, and bearings. Our clearancing is significantly more exact than mazda. We check everything.

Additionally, I have brand new Mazda oem 13brew shortblocks available for $4500. Feel free to call me about a build or a new motor 732-662-1794

 

I laughed out loud at the GM comment. It was def the most reliable and powerful FD I ever owned. The LS3 was amazing. I still like some things about the rotary but let's save that for another thread.
Like everyone says. Reliability will have a lot to due with tuning and if you use new parts verse rebuilding with your old stuff.
I've never had a 13B stay in one piece long. The one Mazda made lasted the longest for me.

If you want it done right, Ihor and I have a pretty damn good track record over the last decade plus I'd say

 

I've even done stupid stuff like overheat an LS3 from a fan not coming on. No issues. Rotary engines are great until something goes wrong and then it's toast. As much as I'm sure there are some great builders out there. When my motor blows it will either be a GoodfellaFD3S assembled stock port with new housings or an LS3 swap.
I wouldn't really trust anyone else to build me a rotary. Not because I think it would be bullet proof but because I trust he would build it the way he says he will and use the parts I buy for the build.

But I know the man personally and that goes a long way with me.

 

The suggestion was merely because they are local to each other.

 

IRP hands down! They went above and beyond, Ihor really knows his stuff. They did an excellent job on my engine as well as some of my customers engines. 8k miles and still running excellent.
