Where to put the coolant reservoir

Someone on the forum has a relocation of his coolant reservoir in favor of ducting for the airbox.
I found this an interesting idea as my engine is out and I'm lloking at improving some stuff.

Is there a specific rule as where a coolant reservoir should sit? It should always be lower than the engine obviously but how low or how high can it be?

Is there a relation to the volume of the reservoir to the total volume ow water in the system? This because I will have to use one of another car.

Thx,
Neal
