You need the "reversed" Orange label Optima. The regular ones won't fit because of the location of the posts.

You can go smaller with the Honda 51R battery and there is someone on the forum that makes hold down brackets, but I would sugest the Optima version because water filled batterys will leak acid when hot.

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...=optima+orange

If you really want to get small there is the Odyessy (Harley/BMW) battery which starts the car fine but can not run anything with the engine off. You will need a hold down kit but NTech won't sell you the replacement unless you allready bought their BMK before.

Here's a slightly better price on the Optimw 51R. I use it in my behind the seat bin.

^ Costco does "not" carry the reversed terminal Orange label needed for the RX-7.

I am going to need a mini-size battery for my front-mount installation. Doesn't the miata come with a little battery or don't a lot of miata owners use a certain kind of little battery... there was a thread about this a while ago. Any suggestions... Keeping the price in mind.

Car stereo shops are sometimes a good place to get nice dry cell batteries.

You want the metal jacket version if you are using it in the engine and you still need to hold it down. N-Tech engineering sells the BMK.

The 51r Batteries are fairly small (abt 3" narrower and 10 lbs lighter than stock)
TurboJeff makes a great Stainless Steel Tray & Holddown to fit the fd for them.

I agree! I'm still waiting to buy a 51R battery to install mine. I'm glad this thread came up, it looks like I will go with that Optima yellow top 51R.

I wish I had known about the OPTIMA 51r when I got mine (Die Hard) but at time I was told OPTIMA only made group 24 & 35 sizes.

The Optima 51R is new. They use to just make full sized batteries.

Thats a nice looking kit. I think it could be done for cheaper though. I dont have the money to waste on a fancy box.
