I saw one shop state something about an "oil mod" during a rebuild and think they put a plug somewhere that keeps the oil pessure up all the time.

This is probably a reference to the "oil pellet" at the front of the eccentric shaft. I don't really understand how it works, but I have heard from a few knowledgable people that it can fail. I think Mazdatrix sells a replacement piece that eliminates the pellet.

I've been running an eccentric shaft from an old 13B, which does not have the spot for the pellet. It is also half the price of the 13B-REW shaft if you are getting a new one anyway.
