What's the highest sale price you've seen for a low-mileage R2?
Hi everyone,
I'm doing a bit of research on the prices of very low mileage 1994-95 R2 FDs in excellent condition. What is the highest price you've seen for an immaculate R2? Thanks very much.

There are very few for sale and very few sold.
If it's in great shape I'd list for 30k or even 35k. I've seen low mileage 93 tourings listed at 30k plus.
The value on these cars is going to get fairly high IMO so be brave with the price or you will regret letting it go in 2 or 3 years when you are looking for another one and the prices are 40k plus LOL

A couple of years ago a local specialty dealer had both '95 Supra and a '94 CYM RX-7 on their lot, the Supra had 40,000 miles and the RX-7 had only 33,000 miles. Both were for sale for 26,999.
I went up to check them out, the Supra was an automatic and silver, the RX-7 was gone "purchased by a buyer from the Internet".
Based on that and others I've seen listed (and R1/R2 typically get a small premium), I don't think it would be unreasonable to see an "immaculate" low-mileage car listed for $30K..maybe as high as $35K. Of course, LISTING and GETTING are two different things.

Look at ebay and you'll probably only see 4 or 5 FDs on the site. 2 years ago you would see at least 10 or 15 and they would be the majority, today FCs and FBs are the majority of RX7s listed there.
Look on autotrader and most FDs are listed at 20k plus and not many for sale (40 or 50). 10 years ago you'd see 10 plus pages of FDs or (250 plus cars for sale). Guys, IT'S HAPPENING, this car is becoming a collector and it's going to be a fairly expensive car in 10 years so take care of your baby and if you have a low mileage r1 or r2 I'd list at 30k plus
I actually have a 95 r2 (dec build date) with 15k miles for sale at 29k (bumping price to 30k now though LOL) and I'd list for a lot more if it was my only FD.

Good info, Fritz.
Do you think the region plays a big part in the pricing, from what you've seen?
I know that the last FD I saw listed locally, either from a dealer or privately, was what I posted above.
I would suspect that west coast cars might bring a premium?

PS In my opinion 30k for a car like my 95 R2 is a frikken deal because there's nothing that is as much fun to drive and looks as cool for anywhere near 30k which is why these cars are going to continue to grow in value.

Thanks, guys. Great info. It's fun to see these cars get the respect they deserve from the collector market!
Fritz, do you have a link to your car for sale? Would love to see it.
(I feel like, over the years, I have bought a complete '95 R2 part by part from you. Thanks for being such a great resource to everyone here!)

It's in the for sale section here on the forum just search 1995 (not many 95s)
The rotary thing is clearly not for everyone but for those that get infected there really isn't a replacement. The sound and vibe of the car is so unique. I'm seriously loving this dang 95 R2, it's perfect exactly like it is for a zoom zoom DD type car. It does need a 99 wheel and I would like a water temp gauge so I'm going to put in the setup I bought from you. The PFS boost and water temp gauge are the coolest DD gauges by far in my book. It's all you need and for some reason they just make me happy so I can't wait to put those in

Personally I feel the un-modified cars (with the exception of known "reliability mods" are going to have the best resale value. I was just looking at Mustang in the local paper, the thing is a beast with a friggin' Pro-Charger and nitrous set up and makes stupid power but...it's listed at like $12K...the dude has to have twice that in the engine alone! The point being...you'll likely never get your money back from most of the mods you do.

Its like that with anything just about. I agree that the stock lower mileage cars will the worth the most. I however, enjoy modifying and driving the cars. If I had money to have a second or 3rd and just put it away or occasionally drive, I would. But to only have 1 FD and not touch it I couldnt do it lol. Im sure Ill be that old guy telling all the kids about the cars I used to have like they do now with all the 60s/70s muscle cars.

The 95 VR R2 is perfect for daily driving and even a little run through the hills wouldn't be boring but if it was my only FD I'd have to go a little further on mods but that's what the black R2 is for
I would be in a bad state of mind if I couldn't zoom around in an FD several days a week so it's important to me to always have one ready to go which is one of the reasons I enjoy owning more than one, also each one has a different lesson to teach you
