What's the difference between the platinum plugs and the copper ones?

I keep hearing this reoccuring notion that the Platinum plugs ONLY advantage is that they last longer in any IC engine.

However, the copper plugs provide greater spark for more power and a more complete combustion.

The difference for the rx7 is that platinum costs about 10x as much and lasts about 2x longer, or so I have heard.

platinum on www.kragen.com is $8 for the NGK and $5 for the regular.

I rather have more spark, hence performance.
