Whats the cost on a rebuild.

Ok guys what would be the cost To rebuild my motor? I just lost a apex seal. It still runs but dose not ideal. I am wondering what to do. Should i just have it rebuilt or should Go through someone like pineapple racing and have them do it? What would be around the price for motor. I want to have a good street car. reliable but yet fast. Should i go with a large street port?I belive i could do the install on my own. What would be around the cost if i just took it a shop and told them what happend and told them i wanted it fixed nothing more. Would this be a smart thang to do?

Well, costs very.. You should how ever do a search on the subject as there are probably @ least a few thousand topics on it.

In my opinion if you can't realy afford to have a Reman and need to rebuild it your self. You should just save up and have it done..

If you can afford either option I say buy the video learn how to do it.. If you fail misrably get a reman.


Tipical range for Home Rebuild 1grand for all seals and gaskets so long as housings & rotors are in good shape..


Reman around 1500+

stock reman $2300 from rx7store
or
street port for $2800

upwards up 3-4 if you take it to a shop....and you could be unluckly and get charged lots more...

$1000-$2000 to do it yourself.
$2000-$4000 for a shop to do it (core exchange as well)

And if you are looking for a serious high performance engine, for racing or a special application the sky is pretty much the limit!

i don't need one yet so i don't think i'll bother him. i hate being that guy that's like, well i don't wanna spend any money right now, but how much would it cost for this this this this this... i deal with people like that at work. we end up spending $1000 in labor to quote what would have been a $600 job. if anyone else that needs one finds out, post it up so we all can know

None of those cheaper prices include new rotor housings or engine parts. My mechanic won't even rebuild a motor without using new rotor housings, which add $1k to the price.

Ok guys i live around springfiled mo. The only shop that i know of to work on my car is a guy about 2 hours from me. Anywas i want to get the motor rebulit But i dont want to take it out and put it in. Could i take it to him have him take it out then send the motor in have it rebuilt with a street port and have it put in. So if i send it off how much would the price be around to have it proted and rebuilt it still runs but i blew a apex seal. So nothing should be to bad. The motor only had around 20k on it. Were would be the best place to send it? Thanks landen

How can doing it yourself be more pricey than rebuilding your own piston v-8 motor? I was looking at some Chevy and Ford kits (piston rings, bearings, gaskets etc) 600 to 700$ ? What gives?

Take the engine apart and see what needs to be changed. Basic rebuild kit is just over $1k. If you need new rotors or housings you can easily add another $1k.

Is a rotor that easy to kill? I know housing are aluminum but rotors?! BTW If you have a dead o-ring (coolant) then thats defintly 1k right?

Easily. Look how many of those comman Chevy and Ford V8 engines there are around compared to how many rotaries. Basic supply-vs-demand as we learned in Grade.7

its better at a shop, they change other things like pulsation damperners, gaskets, solenoids, check valves, ect.... thats why i bought a car with an engine burn and a brand new reman! also, they do the R&R in a week or 2. i spent close to 7k but thats with all new parts and a new tranny, clutch+ lwt flywheel and new injectors, rotor housings, fpd, ect!! its worth it!

You can't know until you take it apart. Housings are getting worn out during the engine's lifetime. And if they are out of spec - guess what you need to do

Rotors are I think more durable though.


What I was thinking is that one would take apart the whole engine every 50k miles, replace all seals and gaskets, clean off the carbon buildup and he should be fine. Also one would replace also housings every other such tear-down.

What do you think ? Or is it better to wait until it goes completely out and then get it fixed ?

Living in Europe we dont get a chance to get Reman engines - so we need to get a NEW shortblock - which is about $6.5k or rebuild it with new parts usually from the states.

if you want to get the engine replaced make sure you go to a good renoun rotary shop who knows what they are doin...even if they are a lil pricey it help out in long run..

Just rebuilt my motor with a www.rotaryaviation.com Master Overhaul kit and Gasket installation kit. It put me right over $1100. I drove it for the first time yesterday and have about 40 miles on it. Runs great, but I'm just really pleased that i save 2000-3000 by doing it myself.
