whats the best BOV ?
#7
I've got a friend who puts down BIG (700+) numbers on a STi and he swears by tial, atleast for their wastegates.. he recommends their BoVs too and in my experience, anything he says I can take to the bank..
But honestly I don't think there is much of a difference between brands of BoV. Even if one reacted a few hundredths of a second quicker than another, that would net you what -- like half a psi more boost for a tenth of a second after you got back on the throttle? IMO the only reason to change the BoV is to get something that you like the sound of. (I've heard the TurboXS RFL is.. erm.. Really F***ing Loud)

The stock BOV is not the best ,for me , because it is open at idle and does not fully close untill above about 3-4 inches. When you let off the throttle it opens at around 17 inches .I have changed the springs in afew of them so they are closed at idle and open at about 24 inches .The increase in spoolup time was noticeable to say the least .also the port size is to small for the amount of air my car was passing .I have seen the Tial units but not used them .They do look very good and I would use one if I was making changes .I am using two of the HKS seq valves and they do the job very well for my set up .The only thing with them is that all of them I have seen leak around the adjustment screw .As several people know I have a fix for that . I am not pushing Tial or HKS because I do not have any contact with all of the brands out there .If the stock one works for you then one with a stronger spring will be way better.Every one who has one thinks so when I was modifing them .

I have one of David's (Garco MW) modified stock BOV and like it a lot. Functions exactly as he describes in his post. Retains stock look and is just quiet as stock.
(Please don't get a loud BOV, that's got to be the cheesiest thing to put on a turbo car. There, I said it.)
