What would be the easiest way to completly clean out the coolant reservoir tank?

I just checked the Service manual. I need to remove all traces of coolant from it. I don't know how to remove it.

How would you guys go about cleaning it out?

there is a screw that is hidden by the fender liner. Just take the wheel off. Fender liner. Then the plastic screws. Also remove the 10mm that is holding it from the top.

I'd merely disconnect the hose at the AST which goes to the overflow. Then I'd remove the cap on the overflow tank and stuff a garden hose in there. Let the water run until what comes out of the AST end is clear. Voila.

I just did this. It is easy. As others have said, take off the fender liner to expose that fastener. There is the screw up on top of the fender that holds the top part of the tank in.
Take that off first, then take off the bottom tank.

doh! you made it sound to easy!!

the reason I suggested it my way was the fact the OP mentioned "all traces". I think he is switching to Evans coolant and having residual water would be a no-no

My suggestion would remove all traces. Water from the garden hose is running into and filling the overflowtank. The only way out is through the AST hose. When what comes out of that hose is clear you know the overflow and the hose is clean.

You will not get all the oily scum out, and there will be some in there. If you want it spotless, get a stiff wire ( coat hanger ) and wrap a small cloth around the end of it. Use it as a swab with some hot water and Tide to scrub the inside spotless. Takes some time, but worth it if you want it like new

I head out to my garden & grab a handful of pea gravel.

With the reservoir removed, dump the gravel in & add some waterless hand cleaner.

Plug or cover all the holes & shake the hell out of it.

The gravel & soap will clean all the nasty residue. It gets into all the nooks & grannies.

Unplug & shake all the gravel out. Rinse with a garden hose holding the reservoir upside down to clear all the remaining soap & gravel.

The reservoir will look brand new.....................
