What size is the water temperature sender unit

Hi, i am looking to install an aftermarket electrical water temperature gauge. it comes with a 1/8 size sender, I need to knwo what kind of adapater i need to fit it in the FC. Also is there anyway i can keep the stock gauge to work?

If it was me I'd leave the stock temp gauge / sensor in place and then stick the new sensor somewhere else in the cooling system (water pump?). That should make for much less hassle!

i have no tools to tap teh sender down, also i hate tapping parts...
