What size tires are you running on your FD?

Tell me your sizes of your front and rear tires. How is the clearances? I just purchased 275/40/ZR17 for the rear and 255/40/ZR17 for the front. Will the fit fine in the fender well?

Thanks

What are you're wheel offsets, spring rates, ride height, camber, which sway bars do you have... a lot of things can affect the propensity to rub. Those tire sizes can work with the right other components and settings.

I don't know all about it but 255 in the front is rather large from what I have heard.

Sorry im gonna ask a ? about my set up.

Im gonna run 18's on stock suspension ( atleast for a little while ) with 285/35/18 tires in the rear and 255/30/18 tires in the front. Will I rub like **** or should I be ok until I get aftermarket suspension an springs. Should I just get springs right away?
thanks,

your tire sizing is a little off. 285/30-18s would be a better choice for the rear. as for the front, i dont think any manufacturer makes a tire in the size 255/30-18. however, 245/35-18 would be a much better size in the front.

Currently I'm running 265/35/18 in the rear and 255/35/18 in the front on the stock suspension without any rubbing.

My Koni's and Eibach's go on next week, to drop it a bit and improve the ride, I'll let you know and will post more pictures...

Lots of clearance (too much for me actually)

Front Close (sorry about the shadow)

Rear Width (265's)

Front Angle

JAMMNN-
Offset is +42 or +43, can't remember which. Next time I have the wheels off I'll look.

dclin - if you are reading this thread, can you comment on the offset of the Borbets? Do you remember?

Mach2-
Yes, the tint is dark...15%

Legal is 50% here in Ohio, so when I cruise around, I usually keep my windows down so I don't get hassled...

The only manufacturer that does (255/30/18s) is Pirelli in their 'regular' Pzero Assemetricals. Qualifications to own include having enough money for regular chiropractor sessions and not have any teeth fillings, cause they're gonna come out. The PZeros have a very harsh ride as it is (nevermind the EXTREME low-profile of that size), but I hear the new Rosso P Zeros are better in terms of ride comfort.

JoeD is right on the tire selection, and 255/35/18 will work as well - all depending on offset, camber, etc like the others mentioned.

Keep in mind that real world tire dimensions vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even from line to line of the same manafacturer.

Case in point - Pirelli 'regular' P zeros 285/30/18s (on 10" width rims) have a measured diameter of 24.9" compared to 25.2" for the P Zero Rossos of the same size (and wheel width).

Hey Kyle, 18X9 +42. Probably the furthest outboard I'd recommend if you wanted to do some major lowering, though others have wheels set out a bit more with no problems.

The 'last mile' when it comes to fit is tire size selection, and 255/35/18 with that wheel size/offset combo will support mild lowering, and more lowering is possible with 245/35/18s or 235/35/18s (both sizes a bit harder to find though).

BTW, stop posting pics of the wheels - you're killing me! Withdraws, oh....

255/40/17 all around with 40mm offset
same size front and rear turned out to be the best for handling
rear fit no problem
front is maxed out, need to bent the metal under the fender up just a bit

My mechanic has 275x40 x17 with 43 offset in the rear . The front is 235x 40 x17 with 38 offset . The car is lowered several inches ( more than 2 or 3 inches ) .He said it looked like a 4x4 before lowering . I have not heard it scrape the finders or bottom out , but the front scrapes the ground turnning in my driveway .

I will be going with O.Z. Superleggera III's, 19x10's in rear and 19x8's up front. Tire sizes 275x30x19 in rear, and 235x35x19 in front. These are the guaranteed to fit wheel and tire sizes from O.Z.. TUV and JWL certified. Those are companies that O.Z. has to pay to make sure of a hasle free install (TUV Europe, JWL Japan). Oh, the offset is +40, front and rear. I'm thinking of going to a 8.5 in the front but O.Z. won't guarantee fitment, only the wheel itself. And there is no sending them back if they don't fit. The wheels are made to order. But around $5300 w/tires and shipped to my house. A bit pricey but worth it to me. Very light for a 19", about 19 lbs for the rear wheel. The sierra advan II in an 18" is nearly 25 lbs.

On stock wheels, 245/45 all around is the maximum. Its not a matter of rubbing, its just anything wider is too wide for the rim. If you get the right 17" wheels, you can go up to 255/40 up front, and with 18" wheels, you can go as high as 285/30 up front. As far as the rear is concerned, I think the max width with stock fenders is 315 if you roll the lip and get the right suspension parts. The reason you can't have 285 width up front with 17" wheels has more to do with tire availability than any geometric reason. OFFSET IS CRITICAL.

255/40-17, 9 x 17, 45-mm offset all around

255/40-17 Pirellis, on 9 x 17, 45-mm offset SSR Integral A2s all around. Absolutely no rubbing problems (my offset is 5-mm more inboard than Wuppy's example below). Indeed--handling is stupendous. See my sig pic below @ Putnam Park Road Course, Turn 4, March 2003.

With 275/40 17s in the front and 315/35 17's in the rear I had to cut the rear fender lips and get a workout with a BFH in the rear fender lining and it still rubs under some conditions. I might be off on the specific sidewall height. It's been awhile since I've looked at the tires.

Manny, I love the way your wheels sit in the wells. I think when I upgrade I will go with 17" wheels instead of 18"s. What kind of wheels are in your sig. above Manny ?

Re: Re: 255/40-17, 9 x 17, 45-mm offset all around

Thanks, Ted. Yeah, I like the tucked-under the fender wells look They are SSR Integral A2s in 9 x 17 with 45 mm offset all around. They're discontinued now. You can get the same set up with their current model, SSR GT1. Those are 5 double-spokes. Very nice wheels. ttb has this setup with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates. The GT1s look even better than my plain track Integrals LOL

Here's the link to ttb's sweet GT1s, 9 x 17, 45-mm offset all around with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates. There's at least two of us with the "SleepR1 Fitment" LOL

I drool over those GT1s. When I get some money, I will get them in 17, gunmetal grey. Time to waste some time looking at prices at TireRack, although I will probably go with Rishie, if he can still have Batman powdercoat them...
