What should I do with this blown motor?

This is not forsale yet, so please don't send me PMs with offers, and this is why its not in the forsale section.

But I have a complete engine with one bad rotor. The housings are in great condition for a rebuild, no damage from broken apex seals. The seals only happened to damage my rear rotor. The mileage is unknown, but when the motor was running I had compression of 100+ on front and back. I purchased it from Fritz earlier this year, and he said the motor had 3-5k miles on it since its last rebuild. It is ported, but it looks like a stage 1 port, not as big as others I've seen.

All the seals and springs from the front rotor are in great condition. I'm trying to decide if I should part it out, or sell it as one package. I could also put some cash into it and rebuild it myself (This would be my 4th rebuild, all have worked nicely with good compression).

What have you done in the past, and what do you recommend for max value? Rebuild, part out, or sell as complete blown w/bad rotor?

Thanks

Since I've only owned my FD since June I've never had to deal with this, but if I had a spare motor lying around with 1 bad rotor, I think I'd tackle a rebuild..with lots of questions to the message board I'm sure since I've never done one

if you dont need cash, rebuild it slowly and keep it for yourself.
if you do need cash, i dont think you would even have to ask. SELL IT!

There's a few things you can do.

I BELIEVE, not sure, that there is a core charge with a Mazda reman engine - if you have a core engine to give them you get a much better price.

If that's not the route you're going, here's a few options -

1. Rebuild it yourself. Tear it down, clean and label everything, and spray everything with WD-40 and store in bags until you're ready to rebuild or do something with it. Take the bad rotor/housing and make a keen mantle display with it.

2. Send it to somebody for a rebuild. Kevin Landers (Rotary Resurrection) does a great job rebuilding motors for a really fair price.

3. Sell the motor as parts. Many times people are looking for good rotors, rotor housings, irons, etc. - you can part out a motor and make some bucks off of it.

4. Sell the motor as a whole. May or may not make more money than if you parted the motor out, and shipping will be much more difficult and pricey. I actually sold a REALLY messed up motor once for $200 for a guy to use as a core charge - otherwise he would have had to spend like $1000 extra on the motor.

5. Throw it out/take to metal recyclers. Last option, but an option .
