What replaces the Timing belt/chain on an FD?

I am wondering if the problem I am having in my car is a timing issue. On a piston engine if you got spark and fuel but the car wont start the timing belt/chain might be off. In an FD what exactly designates the firing order and speed of the plugs?

Cam timing and ignition timing are usually seperate, unless the ignition signal is based off of a cam angle sensor. All rotary engines have fixed intake and exhaust timing, the only way to change it is to port the engine. The ignition timing is from a crank angle sensor front top left corner.

The FD uses a trigger wheel with 2 pickups. It is directly behind that main pulley on the E-Shaft. The two pickups are on the top right of the wheel.

That said, i seriously doubt your problem is ignition related unless your PFC is wacked out.

with a rotary engine...if you have spark and fuel, and it doesn't start...you need a rebuild

or best case, you need to de-flood your engine.

^^ to expand on what has already been said, it sounds like it might be time for a compression test. Did anything out of the ordinary happen before the car started acting like this?
