AND....Are aftermarket "lower" ratio gears made for the FD?? (Like the 4:11's sold for Chevys). Thanks.

Can you not feel that it's already low?

Omg I consider 4.10 Pretty Radical as it is. Lower would mean you would need to rev higher. Im pretty sure they do make different gear ratio.

For a rotary a ratio approx 1.5 times lower is equivelant. Everything in the rotary is out by 1.5 compared to the eqivelant piston motor. They produce 1.5 times less torque but rev 1.5 times higher, so need a 1.5 times lower ratio. A 4.1 doesn't feel low at all in a rotary.

I used to race a 69 Camaro with 4:11's. My FD is an Auto, so the 3:90's don't seem to be to low. At 80 mph I'm revin just at 2800 in final drive (4th). My Camaro used to rev at 3800 going 55 mph in 3rd gear (it was an Auto also).

How much quicker would I run in the 1/4 mile with 4:30's ?? Maybe 1 full second quicker???

Depends on the car, if 4.11 is the ideal ratio then it will go slower with a 4.30.

stock manual is 4.1, stock auto is 3.9 and I believe RZ's have 4.3 final gear.

I've got the 4.7...

MikeC: I guess my question wasn't very good..!! What I really wanted to know was....Will my FD run a full second quicker in the 1/4 mile with 4.30's?? I currently have 3.90's. Thanks.

It depends. It will probably run quicker but it's unlikely to be a second quicker. It could even run slower, there are too many variables to know without trying it.
