What is A/R on a turbo spec mean? By changing this number from say .84 to 1.0 what changes would I notice?

A/R ratio = area/radius ratio

To get the specific A/R ratio you divide the Area by the Radius and that gives you a ratio (ie 0.84 and 1.0 is an A/R ratio)

Basically a bigger A/R means a bigger fan. A bigger compressor A/R will be able to compress more air then a smaller A/R compressor. And I believe a bigger A/R turbine will be able to exert more turning force on the compressor, and it also allows more exhaust gas to pass through (less turbine backpressure) at the expense of more lag/slower response.

Off course all that was off the top of my head. Buy a copy of Corky Bells book "Maximum Boost". It will teach you a lot of basic fundumentals about how turbo systems work. You can get it from www.amazon.com or www.bn.com
