The best in tx is 93. Yes like they have said you should use atlest a 91 for best results. The owners manual does say is ok to use down to a 89 or 87 what ever regular is. Just if you go down to that it wont performe as well but it wont really do anything bad to the car.

100 octane in Norco, CA! I drive down there once in a while to fill up on some of that, but I usually just use 91 since california's so gay like that.

91 Octane Chevron Techron religiously

and for track or run days I use 3/4 tank of 91 Octane with 3-4 gallons of VP MS103 + 4 oz MMO mixed in. Stir briskly, and serve immediately. Serving size = 1

Oops, for some reason I was thinking of race gas when I wrote the second number. 94 octane is the highest we get at the station.

THAT IS WRONG!!!!

The owner's manual does NOT say you can use 87 or 89, it states that 91 is required. And YES, it can do something bad to your car, it's called detonation. Please think before posting something like that....

actually no. If you went to sevenstock on sunday at racing beat they explained this. They said that they have run 87 in a 500 HP car before and nothing went wrong. They said a rotory engine is actually octane friendly to a point. I wouldn't recomend gunning it on 86 octane, or even putting this in your car for that matter, I'm just letting you know that's all. Detonation is from ignition timing mostly, read up boys!

The point was that the car was TUNED to run on 87 octane. And did they daily drive that car? For how many miles? If you trust in that situation, plug in the PFC base map and put 87 octane in, turn up the boost to 14 psi and let her rip.......

EDIT: Maybe RB was using KDR's anti-detonation device.....

Do they just have it at the pump, or do you have to know the secret handshake? I've never seen it, and I've been to stations that supposedly have it (though I wasn't looking at the time).

In Alberta Canada I use 92 octane 10% ethanol with good results (no blown engine). On the west coast that gas is rated at 94 octane. I have seen 96 octane pumps in a Chevron station in B.C. (Squamish). I don't like most premium non-ethanol gas as it usually carbons up the intake tract due to the junk they add to boost the octane.

Duplicate post, but everywhere you see "octane" insert "octane rating".

dont use 87 if you have a FD, not a smart move.

I remember reading somewhere that paint thinner is the same as Toluene. Is this true, if I go out and get some paint thinner (the ones with the miniral sprits in it), it will work the same as Toluene?

lower octane

I have a friend that was running turbo RX7s in the world challenge cup...or some kind of professional enduance racing back in...I can't really remember the era. Early 90s I believe. The FC bodies if I remember right. I'll need to ask him some more details.

He was on the team at the front.

87 octane all the way....86 or 85 if they could find it.

the lower octane rating made sure the fuel was completely burned before it left the engine and lowered the EGTs because the high octane fuel wasn't continuing the combustion inside the turbo.

when they figured this out...they went from a turbo rebuild every race...if the turbo would hold out that long...to once a season.

they absolutely had to tune the car for it, but it made for a much more reliable system going flat out all day.

John

P.S. All the talk of international octane ratings are in RON...not (MON+RON)/2 standard the US uses. The "generic" rule of thumb people use to convert is -5 octane points from a RON number to get a (MON+RON)/2 equivalent. Thus 98 suddenly becomes 93 We don't have it that bad, except for cali
