The exhaust side of the turbos face eachother inside the spot where the downpipe attaches. You cannot see the exhaust turbines without a flashlight or taking them apart. The wheels themselves also look completely different.

RedR1 03-23-05 11:13 AM

Maybe the previous owner ran it without the airbox. . . . . just sucking air into the accordian pipes for less restriction. . . ?? Weird things happen all the time. .

And totally off topic, dhahlen, the chick in your avitar is totally hypnotizing me. . . . very hot wife/friend/fbuddy :bigthumb:

I wasn't jumping down your throat, man. You're going to have to grow a thicker skin to be a member of this forum... :)

Maybe the car was going in reverse when it blew the apex seal, and that's why it wrecked the intake wheel. :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

Umm...I take it you didn't read much of this thread...

GoodfellaFD3S 03-23-05 04:29 PM

The majority of FD owners have no clue what their turbos look like, most likely b/c they have never seen a set off of the car.

At the shop I used to show customers old stock turbos we had laying around all the time. It's to be expected, really. How many people on this forum know anything about motor internals? Probably even less. Hell, when I bought this car back in 1998 I had no idea where the damn spark plugs were, let alone how to clearance side seals or properly set in an inner coolant seal :D

dhahlen 03-23-05 07:07 PM

blah blah blah, keep talkin captain... thats all you officers are good for... haha, and what the hell are you doing in new jersey, when the hell did you get there... what happened to tx? maybe i'm thinking of someone else... hrmm yeah i am about ot post some pics of my project, haha what a freakin mess my engine is...

if it's in that kind of shape, i wouldn't even bother putting it back together...go and rent a coolant system tester and check out if you have bad o-rings. white smoke from the engine normally means a rebuild. that, oil leaks, the turbos, the o2 sensor, you guys have your work cut out for you, but it should be a fun project.

Jim

dhahlen 03-23-05 07:44 PM

well, i found the source of the white smoke... oil dripped down onto the cat.. and it was burning off causing the smoke to come up the engine bay... his engine seems fine for now =P MUAHAHHAA (Dr. Evil LAugh)

Chaosx1 03-23-05 08:19 PM

Haha sorry but what's FOD?

dhahlen 03-23-05 08:27 PM

Foreign Object Damage =P

Toadman 03-23-05 08:50 PM

They do FOD walk-downs on carrier decks/runways looking for anything that can get sucked into the perfectly-balanced turbine blades.

I think he was following a certain green eclipse when it's flooring busted loose. :D

DGblk93 03-23-05 08:53 PM

I heard a Haines Beefy T can do that to a turbo....

Negative, private snuffy :D. no more texas, i now work in midtown manhattan but retain ownership in my shop. The FD and FC are rockin and rollin in the northeast now :bigthumb:

dhahlen 03-23-05 10:11 PM

Private SNuffy? LOL - you have a lot to learn about manners El Capitan... haha. Damn, now you're even futher, I could have made it to texas sometime... haha

OneRotor 03-24-05 01:54 AM

if that's the compressor side of the turbo, you should just rip apart the engine for the hell of it, because whatever did that to the turbo prolly fooked your engine's internals. how many blades have parts missing? something pretty big hit that wheel, and all those parts got tossed through the intercooler and into the engine...you'd be EXTREMELY LUCKY if you avoided internal motor damage. i personally think that's a good enough reson for a rebuild, port job, new seals, 99 spec/BNR stage 3 twins (sequential, of course), etc., etc., but that's just me...

dhahlen 03-24-05 02:43 AM

there was also a ton of sand in his intercooler... and oil in the pipes too... compression check will be necessary, i dont want to break the bad news to him if he has to rebuild... bullshit, fuck yeah i do.. it all comes with owning an FD, lol

dhahlen 03-31-05 03:51 PM

Oh, friend found 2 long ass pieces of metal sitting in his intercooler piping, luckily it didn't fly into the engine... wonder if he still has it, might get some pics, lol.
