They likely changed it because you were accusing a long-time, reputable vendor for selling bad products and/or knock-offs, when in fact the problem was because you didn't check/change the sock when you replaced your pump.

It's not good to accuse other people right off the bat.

I still don't understand why these two vendors had to scratch off the model number of the pumps. There is a wide variety of Denso pumps in the same housing configuration. So when the model numbers are scratched off, it brings doubt into the mind of the buyers as to what the buyers are really buying: the first quality OEM Denso pump or the house-brand special (a.k.a. as the Wal-green brands).

If all I cared about was flow and price, I would have bought the Walbro POS pump.

 

All new pumps I've ever seen come with a new filter sock, was it changed when you swapped the pump last time?

 

Mine didn't come with a new filter. The old one looked like new.

 

Nope. Mine didn't come with a filter sock. The Cosmos one did. But 4 years ago when I switched to the RP denso pump, the sock didn't look dirty. In the intervening 4 years, the tank must have rusted. What could I expect? The 17 year old tank is getting old and rusting.

 

Wow, that's the nastiest looking inlet filter I've seen. I've always changed that filter when replacing the pump or taking it out of service, etc. There are inexpensive from Ray in the grand scheme of things.

As to the Denso pumps, I used an RP/Supra pump from 1999 to about 2003 with no problems until I wired it or constant 12V. It only lasted about 6 months before I'd see fuel pressure dropping on a 3rd gear pull.

While not giving it much thought, 2 options come to mind for scratching off the model number.

First possibility is why you're raising doubts in the first place.

Second, the companies might be trying to dodge any legal issues they might have by "rebranding" the product.

There could be other possibilities, but nothing else comes to mind. Either way its not like the product itself was at fault.

 

I think my pump, rx7store.net (jason's) just died. Died right before pulling into the garage. Won't start. Havnen't check spark/compression, but doubt that's the issue. Hot wired pump directly to batter, ls1 swap. 1st week I had the car running I kept burning thru 30 amp glass fuses due to bad continutity in the fuse holder. Hope that didn't prematurely fry it. ~5 years, ~25k reliable miles on it, made 300 whp dyno jet with the old rotary. Loosened fuel line @ rail and no evidence/trace of fuel smell or dripping. Last tiem I did that fuel was shooting everywhere.

I will pull the pump and inspect in a few days, and confirm fuel pressure @ rail (don't have gauge installed yet but will now). I suspect clogging may be an issue as well due to 4 month old gas sitting in my tank while doing the v8 swap. Hopefully my tank isn't too gross and/or rusty inside...

For all I know I could have a pinched line or clogged inline fuel filter (brand new piece) but I would think at least some fuel would make its way up to the rail, and the car was parked, idling just fine when it stopped running can't see any reason for lines to pinch at a dead stop, even if it did, motor would probably not just die completely.

For those of you whose pump did fail: could you still hear it come on/prime? I can hear it come on... makes that little whine/buzz noise after the relay clicks on.

Will post pics, looking forward to seeing the sock.

 

You just may have had some bad luck bro. I ran dual denso pumps for years with no issues till I needed more pump. Since i've stepped up to the Bosch 044's. If you have to buy again, get the Bosch. No other in tank pump will flow more.

 

I'm retarded... I just hooked up a fuel pressure gauge... f/p is fine. I have other issues. It's a great pump so far... never had a problem and it is pretty much plug and play.

 

I had a similar problem actually, I got continuity to A and B, but one of my wires coming FROM the fuel pump (the connector thats actually in the gas tank that connects to A and B) had a eroded connector that wasnt getting electricity through it. I found this by hooking everything up and turning the car on then wiggling wires by the fuel pump.

I am just about to install a Denso (Supra TT) fuel pump in my FD, it does not come with a new filter sock, but the sock from the FD pump looks like new and clean, can I reuse that on the Denso pump or is the Toyota filter sock for the Denso pump a better filter, thanks in advance.

Re-use it. You don't need a new one.

 

I used two old stock fd socks on my dual walbro 400 setup; didn't like the large walbro filters. Works fine. No issues. I have more then enough fuel to power a rocket ship now.
