I have been checking out rims lately and what is a good light weight rim weigh in at? Is 20lbs too much? I think stockers weigh in at liek 16 or so. Please advise......

Depends.

Volk Racing wheels, CCW, and SSR comps/integrals/GT1s are all in the 17-20 lb range in the larger reasonable sizes -- 17x9, 18x9, 18x10. These represent the state of the art in wheel making. Fikse and Kinesis only weigh a hair more (and some would say look much better).

For street driving/light racing, anything under 20 lbs would be pretty good.

I still think you should look at some Volks

LE37T if you like the spoke look

or

LE37K if you like the mesh look

They are strong and very light and reasonably priced, considering. PM Rishie (ARD T2) for club prices and fitment info.

Lighter is better, generally, but what "light" is depends on the size. My 17" Volks are 15.2 and 16.6 lbs for 8.5" and 9.5" widths, respectively. My CCWs are 18x10" and I think they are about 22 lbs each (but I haven't weighed them yet). Those are both pretty light for their sizes, but obviously the larger wheels weigh more.

I saw some rims the other day that were forged magnesium or aluiminum or something that weighed in about 9.9lbs for a 17x9

Really? I thought the current record for a street wheel was the CE28N, 12.9lbs for 17x9". Can you find the link where you saw it?
