What goes here

Does anybody know what goes in this hole circled in red its threaded? plug perhaps? The oil seal plate covers it.

Nothing. That's a bonus hole . I was thinking it might be for something on auto tranny cars, but they have totally different rear housings.

The little dust shield covers it, too.

It just looked odd that nothing would go there! But then again from what I see it serves no purpose. The oil seal plate covers 98% of the hole. I was just curious!
