What is a fair price on this used FD?

'93 silver/black touring, 74,000 on the clock, stock everything. I'm looking to buy it since its one of the very few local to me. He is asking for $17,500 which just sounds ridiculous to me. I'm trying to decide what to offer him. I'm satisfied with just doing "ok" , I don't really need a super deal. So assuming the car is healthy(which of course I'll find out) how much would you pay for it maximum? Thanks.

Sounds really steep in terms of price. I'm sure with accurate information of a compression test and market value you could talk him down to a more realistic price. I'd say around 13 thousand and that is making room for the inevitable rebuild you will likely need at around 100 thousand miles.

Just confront him with details you learn on here (i.e. motor doesn't last very long with no reliability modifications, car is 10 years old) and he will see that maybe the price of 17 thousand is too much. Think of other things to nit pick about to get the price down and do a search on here of what to look for when buying a new 3rd ged. Things like white smoke on a cold start up, whether he says it has overheated before and bad syncros (does it scrape going into any of the gears).
