I have more miles on my FD than JD has on both.

There are problems that I have asked about the car that never got a reply that solved the issues.

Perhaps not enough people have experienced these problems to date.

So I suffer in silence...........

lol......iceman.......

JD, well said.

From my opinion, I do think that its the Oring thats causing it to smoke up like that at idle. I have the same problem. As well as the smoke, my coolent over flows after driving it hard.
But I've been driving like that for 1yr now. I just let my baby flow like that and waiting for the right* moment to refresh my motor.

This is irelevant to this smoking issue but heres what I've read on the japanese rx7 mag.
when your seals are going out, you lose compression as u all know...and in order for you to check the compression just check the vacuum at idle if your boost guage is hitting 450mm^cm2 ur ok, but any less your motor needs to be rebuilt soon.

like...duh....huh =P

I had 2 throw my 2 cents in. I own Mazda Recycling. Started it in 1988. Whenever a RX7 smokes for a few minutes at start up when its only been sitting for 1 night the seals are on there way out. It could continue smoking about the same amount for years. I've seen it many times. I would keep running it if it doesnt get worse. I have never one improve without a rebuild.

I believe the reason the thread continues is because nobody really answers the question. There are a lot of "check this" and "check that" but nobody will answer by saying if it is "this" then replace "that" and it will cost approx "XX" That is what I am after. I just looked at a real clean '89 with about 86k on it. BUT it had this white smoke that billowed out of the pipe upon start-up. Yes the white smoke was OIL (I too have had extensive auto experience and I too can deterimine Oil from Propylene or ethylene glycol). I am not familiar with Rotories at all but I would like to buy and race one. Hence, searching "White Smoke". The only reply that made sense spoke about a OMP being stuck or the seal going bad. Please respond to this question

Blue tint and exhaust smelling like gasoline = OK.

Greyish and exhaust smelling sweet = BAD.

If the smoke doesn't clear within a minute or so, have someone look into it either way.

Hard starting can accompany the smoking too. Either water or oil in the combustion. Clearing up after warm can be heat turning the pool of water into steam and a slow leak not creating much new water; or due to the cat burning off the oil when hot. Another obvious case for a high mileage car is that it is a little bit of water and a little bit of oil. I waited for mine to get worse; and it finally did -- not even a cough to hope to start. Mechanic found water in the combustion chamber. He says get new engine due to probable crack in engine casing. Seems logical, but are there any other peculiar causes of such problems in these critters?
