What type of ecu do I need for a modified intake, downpipe, midpipe, cat back, and larger intercooler. I want to do this as cheap as possible because I just bought all of the above. After I install them I will not be doing anything more for awhile. Thanks for the help.

 

At that level of modification, there is no such thing as cheap. Best bet is a used A'PEXi PowerFC and professional tuning for a little over $1K.

 

You'll always want more.. but if your looking for an ECU, look for a Pettit ECU.

 

Power FC

 

pfs pmc would be pretty much the "cheapest" thing you could get. If you have an Auto its a great way to go too. Also I noticed your in Indianna, Chris at banzai racing www.banzairacing.net in Peirceton Indianna has a wide band set up and has experience with them so he can tune it for you. ALso he's a great guy I've have alot of good experience with him and would be more than willing to answer any questions you have about my experiences with him. Also I have his email if you wanted it.

just take the old ECU out and put a box of condoms in instead... cause well, if you're trying to be cheap, you're gonna get f*cked. cheap and FD don't go together! when will people learn? get the PFC and do a search next time.

 

Im wondering the same thing....

I talked to a guy from RE Amemiya and they told me they can reprogram the stock ECU. Im not sure if thats possible on pre 95 models. My car is a 96 model so maybe its got the OBDII ports ....Maybe a reprogrammed stock ECU isnt as flexible in the long run anyway

 

It really depends on what you want to do with your car. We have people here in the US running on reprogrammed ECU's pushing 360rwhp on the stock twins and stock fuel system. Now you can certainly push the stock twins further with a programmable ECU and upgrading the fuel system but that just depends on how far you are planning to push your car.

Most people end up with standard bolt-on mods and around 330rwhp. Reprogrammed ECU's are just fine if that's what you are looking to obtain with the goals for your car.

 

Forget the Power FC. I have the PFC, which is a great mod. However, if you don't have a good tuner, it will destroy your engine. Also, it will cost you a few hundred to get it tuned.

Go with the Pettit Racing ECU. It's cheaper and you don't have to worry about having it constantly retuned.

Also, with your mods you will need to look into upgrading your fuel injectors and possibly the fuel pump.
