What is a downpipe?

What is a downpipe?

I'm a newbie. I have a '93 Touring model that I have spent a whole bunch of money on. I define my car as a hole in the freeway to pour money into. I love dangling participles. So my cry to all of you veterans is, "Help". At this point, I would gladly trade this car (retail to retail) for a primo, mostly stock GSL-SE. I have owned two of them in the past; both gave me much more pleasure than this car.

This car, perhaps more than any other car, requires knowledge to make for a good ownership experience. For example, you should know that there are perhaps 2 or 3 Mazda dealers in the entire country who know how to work on these cars. A typical Mazda dealer will diagnose any boost problem as "you need new turbos", when it could be just a leak in a pipe coupler.

Go to the sites listed under the "newbie" stickie at the top of the page. Spend some time reading about the car. You will find much good information (even if reading it makes you more paranoid than necessary).

Good luck and don't take the car to a Mazda dealer! If you are near the Bay Area, I suggest taking your car to Rick's Rotary Performance in Pleasanton. 925-484-2324

You say you have invested lots of money into this car yet you don't know what a downpipe is. A search engine would have given you a perfectly good answer, but since I am in a good mood tonight, a downpipe replaces the stock pre-cat, giving less restriction on the exhaust. Next time you have a question please try to use the search feature, it has pretty much all of the questions that a newbie would have answered. Not trying to be mean but just so you know next time.
