What double din oem bose head units are a direct fit?
I would like to upgrade the old CD and tape single din units in my 93 touring with the bose system. I want to keep it oem from Mazda.
I know there are few drop in replacements, but the info on what models and what years work are a little sketchy.
1. I need to know what years and makes would be a direct drop in with no cutting or splicing of the wires?

I did a write-up on this a while back, search my name and bose. You have to make a connector, but you don't have to splice or cut any existing wires. Others have written up similar procedures.

You'll have to cut out the divider between the cd and radio to make it a 2 Din space, no big deal.
There are plenty of Bose models with CD or changers or combinations. I used one from an '02 Mazda 6, looks like the Spirit R, but with the buttons on the correct side.
You do have to buy/make the connector, but it's simple to do. If you use a Bose head, everything works fine.

You should have held out for a Mazda Protege 5 head unit. It has the proper orange backlight instead of green.
As far as the Bose unit. I purchased the regular unit from the Protege since my car didn't have the Bose sound system in the 1st place.
The major benifit..... in dash 6 disc changer & fader control for the rear speakers.
I added a compact powered sub that fits behind the trunk divider, under the rear strut bar.

The link above is very good.I installed a 2001 Mazda 626 with 6CD changer.Used the orange socks to change the light colour.2001-2002 Millenia works well.I selected the 626 because it has a clock, the Millenia does not.
Total cost about $120,including harness and antenna adapter.
