Thumbs up M2 MEDIUM

My pick will be the M2 medium. I think Ivan has the M2 large if you want to see that. The link Mahjik posted is very good and the link to Max Coopers page is good too. For right now I'm going to use a water sprayer on the IC. I'm just to freakin lazy to install it! I expect it to be pretty effective. Let me know if you want info.

FYI, ivan had the m2 medium, he got rid of it in place of the greddy smic. I have the m2 medium, it's good for twin turbos but it heat soaks like a mother....while i was lining up for tech inspection at de anza this weeekend, I saw the air intake temps go way up.

I road race my car, and will be getting the greddy 3 row when my single turbo, the japanese tuners can get away with it so i figure it's not that bad.

batman, have you noticed the massive amount of greddy and blitz smic's for sell used. that should tell you something. probably, that it isnt the best one out. i like the m2 and the pettit. spyfish007 also has had a group buy on one. it is nice. ask him when he is gonna do another one.

I wouldn't say that.

If you look, those people are just moving towards the FMIC.

Batman,

One thing to consider: HKS type S FMIC has a CARB number.
If you have your heart set on an SMIC, only GReddy has it.

Ivan just sold his M2 Medium SMIC.

He has the Greddy one and it has a stock fit and look.

I don't know if I want the Greddy SMIC or the RX7 store SMIC that uses stock itnercooler piping.

The issue is do I want:

CARB #s

Which one cools better (major difference?)

Which one ccan keep stock air box and battery for stock look.

Given the Above criteria (must Have CARB# and Fit w/ stock Battery & Airbox) the Greedy is your only choice
The all the other ones (except BLITZ) require an aftermarket intake/Airbox and/or do not have a CARB#

yeah, it looks like the Greddy SMIC is the route to take.

But will I loose out on not going with a Medium SMIC for cooling effeciencies?

Are the benefits all that great?

I got the GREDDY SMIC.
Here is a attachment of how it looks
in the car.. Looks very nice all polished,
makes the rest of my engine bay look bad.
Gredddy SMIC was easy to install.
Working fine for me.

IMO the real issue from FMIC and SMIC
is the cooling capacity vs pressure loss.

There was a whole thing on it, on Sport compact
car Project RX7.

And FMIC i hear can be a PITA to install, and
can be damaged by road debre.

From further research. I heard that Mazda engineer
stop using " TOO EFFICIENT IC's" because
it were leading to many blown motors. and etc.

So IMO, Greddy offered great cooling capacity. with least about of pressure drop. But isn't TOO efficient
that can lead to detonation.....

Lataz..

(correct me if I'm wrong) I'm pretty sure a hyper-efficient IC will not lead to detonation.

The M2 SMIC looks bigger than the GReddy. Dunno the exact volume, but it should cool better.

Does anybody have good pictures of the duct mods that need to be made to fit a Greddy SMIC? Is there alot of trimming, little trimming, or do we have to go out and buy the Pettit duct or something?
I also think the Greddy SMIC is superior and well designed. Has anybody tried to put a fan on the Greddy? Is there room? Thanks
Ryan

Batman,

It really depends on what you are looking to do with your car. If you are just looking for something better than the stock, any of them will give you that.

If you are looking for something to give the maximum drop without the hassles of relocating the battery and other things with using stock piping, the GReddy or Blitz is going to be your only choice.

Next, if you need to have a CARB #, then as Max said, you are stuck with the GReddy SMIC.

I would bet that any of them will give you the performance you are looking for, just depends on the amount of money you are looking to spend verses the amount of work you want to do to install it....

Now here's Greddy, this example blending the stock crossover with the Pettit duct. As you can see, the stock crossover doesn't clear the top of the IC neccessitating some trimming. Not that it would matter since there is no hole in the pettit duct for the crossover to feed off of anyway. Although this doesn't look pretty, it is completely CARB legal.

I would imagine it's because of the width of the IC. The Efini Y-Pipe was created for the stock IC. You would probably need to find cut part of the pipe in order to keep it.

I have no idea since I don't have the kit.

The Greddy SMIC is 375 in volume compared to 507 in on teh ASP M2 Medium SMIC.

At least both are better then the factory volume of 129 in.
