What is done to the car already? What are you going to use it for?

Might as well scratch the 20b option off of your list, b/c for the cash amount listed it ain't happening

I agree with Rich, scratch the last two options off.

a local shop said he would do a ls1 for 9k with 6 speed manual and every thing i would need to do it. and some people on sprx-7.com a local rx7 forum they said i could get a 20b swap for about the same.

I just want the car to be an occcasional track car scca and 1/4 mile mainly a around town car that can hold it own when those rich kids with z06's pull up next to me with there hot girl friends and i wax the **** out of them! this is not my daily driver but a car for the weekends I have a civic for my daily driver.

The 20b should be off the list, but the ls1 is possible for 12k. Go ls1, it will save you money in the long run cause you know the good 'ol rotary won't last long.

nah i understand completely

but come on, if you're not happy with the overall life of a rotary or the many downsides it has, just get another car and stop ruining what an rx7 is supposed to be..

just IMHO

^^LOL

yeah

but seriously, i understand that people may still love rotary but want more reliability and love the fd style but idk, to me, thats like being a traitor..its like having a g/f and being with her for a while but having someone on the side while still going out with her..

its not right

you have something good from the start, leave it as that

just deal with the problems that come with it

IMHO

if you want a fast car with a v8 in it go buy a rustang or camaro... the beauty of the fd is its light weight and high power to weight ratio w/ the rotary engine... im not sayinig you shouldent motor swap a car, i have a datsun 510 with a turbo rotary, but it weighs the same as the stock motor and makes 4x the power. an ls1 is heavy, unless its an aluminum block

Maybe 12k in parts for the 20b swap yes. Labor, hell no. There is a reason that shops charge 35k for the swap.

Re: the ls1 swap, dont do it. It's not as easy as you think, and you are cutting out the heart of the FD. Go buy a Z06 if you want a reliable high output piston motor.......

Just a comment from reading the post....

anyone who swaps ANY engine other then a 13B or 20B ROTARY, into a mazda RX-7 , should have the title of the car taken away, and in exchange be given a Honda Insight. The engine is what makes a 7 what it is, you take that away you mine as well have a hybrid honda civic.

AND i am appauled at someone wanting to swap an Ls1 corvette engine into a 7, jesus christ. an american V8 , come on now dude.

Putting any type type of motor (beside a rotary) in a RX-7 is not a RX-7 no more, is more of a kit car then. Don't ruin the car. Beside rebuilding a rotary is actually easier that a piston motor (found out last night ). Just go get a set of upgraded twins and enjoy them.

this thread will go on forever about who should and shouldn't put this and that into the car. Who cares let everyone do whatever they want with the car, its theirs isnt it? Besides like I said it will just make mine and yours become more rare and worth just a tad more. So don't whine and let them do what they want, besides they have their reasons

If he wants to put another engine in there then let him do what he wants, it's his money!

When you ask people for their opinions, you're going to get them. Did you vote on the poll ?

Personally I like the rotary engine more than any other engine ever produced just because it’s different and is a 1.3 that has some power to beat much lager engines/cars. My dad wants me to do the ls1 because has not a rotary fan the ls1 only is about 45lbs more. the only reason im even considering this swap is because i dont have alot of money to keep fixing things that break.

I wish I knew how to work on a rotary by my self I just have to find someone to teach me!

I knew when I posted this I would get a vast view on this subject but I like to hear what people have to say because many of them have been there and know what they are talking about

keep the opinions and votes comming in!
