What to do before nitriding irons?
Well I am going to be sending my irons out to advanced nitriding solutions in Indiana www.ans-ion.net . This place looks pretty HI-Tech and the people are really nice. Anyone looking to have nitriding done should definatly check them out. They have agreed to $1.5 a lb and about a 2 week turn around. The longer turn around is due to the fact they waived the $500.00 minimum charge. I am working on preping my plates and removing all the extra fittings and freeze plugs. Is there anything else that I am missing and should be done before the entire plate is hardened? I was also thinking about sending my eccentric shaft out there and possibly the rotors. Would this be a good idea?

according to Maxt, Mazda has 3 areas on each iron and each receives a differing hardness.
i don't recall where Maxt's post is located (probably Single Turbo section) but i would be very careful re the nitriding process.

Before you send your plates to have renitrated. Reamove the freze plugs, remove all the oil plugs( Reason they will have to be replace with new plugs like AN type pipe plugs, the nitrating poroces will meke those brass factory oil plugs leak.
Alsso remove your oil filet neck with the colant pipes.
That will do it.
Now depending on there renitrading proces they might warp your plates. You realy need to have some one with expirince that done these plates before.
Hope that helps.
Alsso did you have your plate lapped?
Allso it will be a good idea to have your porting done before you send them out.
