Paint it the original color. Unless you plan on doing a 100% body-off paint job then a different color will look tacky. Paint it whatever color is under the hood.

I know from experience...

the WHOLE car is going to be getting sprayed, im not much of a fan of the dark green and everything is different colors.

me and my dad rebuild wrecked cars for a living so it will get sprayed everywhere and not just the exterior.

statistically, silver cars sell more than any other color.

Yup. Any non original colour will decrease resale value. And since a proper full paint job that includes engine bay, jambs etc. will cost about $7k I'm not sure why you are worrying about the financial logic of repainting. Pick a colour you like.

I would agree with the previous posters....first choice would be whatever color the chassis was originally. Failing that, paint it any factory color except for Montego Blue. Dark green was, unfortunately, 90s fad which has since fallen from grace. Black, white, silver, red...all classic. I wouldn't do yellow...smacks too much of trying to be a cheap knockoff.

Uh, they are painting it themselves, it won't cost them a grand. Paint jobs are mostly labor, and when you do it yourself, it's cheap financially.

Even though red is my color of choice, its not the number one seller. White is just sexy, but the best shot for resale is probably silver #1, black #2.

its just going to cost us the cost of the paint/clear and sanding materials. im really leaning towards black at the moment. white is another color that i have thought about as well, just got to do some more thinking. i just want to fix this car up and sell it and im trying to figure out which would make the possible.

thanks for the responses guys.

You know this how? And their skill level would have to be substantial to match a proper $7k job.

Only if you place no value on your time.

Yup - probably silver followed by black.

Because the OP said so. And since he also said he and his dad rebuild cars for a living I'm thinking they probably know their way with paint.

one of the newer fd factory colors would probably be nice too.. since the US market missed out on them

I don't know if it would sell "best", but I'd vote for the blue (innocent blue mica) too.
1) It's simply a nice color
2) none of the US Rx7s came in a real blue.
3) Someone is bound to want it just for the "JDM" reason.

ACTUALLY, he never said "WE" are painting it, he just mentioned it was going to get painted. I only assumed they were doing it themselves because many guys that rebuild cars and sell them for a living, do everything themselves to create a profit margin that is actually worth their time and effort.

So even though i was right, it was only by luck.

supracelica,

Basically any of the stock colors are going to sell better than a non-stock color. Typically, CYM sells for more but it won't matter if it's not an original Mazda CYM from the factory. In that sense, just pick one of the stock colors you like best, and use it. While I like Red, it was one of the most produced colors so you'll probably have better luck with Silver or Black.

The spirit R silver will sell teh easiest, since it is a 93 I would either choose that color or Black, however an original paint white 94/95 fd is by far the easiest color to sell.

But when he said it was only going to be the cost of materials to paint it that tells me they were going to do it themselves. Unless they had a VERY nice friend or relative spend the time on it for free.

white took silver's place this year. Silver had reigned for SEVEN years.
One could infer that a white car would thus be more appealing to the 'mainstream', however...to the FD cognoscenti....CYM is the arguably most popular.

I would paint is a color true to its model year. and CYM would only be veiwed as a fake.
