I'm not much of a fan of Montego Blue either. To me it looks more green than blue. I'm sure that the people at Mazda knew that, but didn't think they would sell as many cars if they called it "Montego Green".

BTW, I believe that there were more VR FD's made than any other color.

Followed by black, then Montego Green. I posted a breakdown of the colors and percentages by year and total in another thread, and I'm too lazy to go look it up.

BTW, Twinturbo522, when you respond to a post with several pictures in it, please edit the quoted section to eliminate all but the picture you're referring to. It's a pain in the *** to have to scroll through all of the pictures again just to get to a one-line response or question. Someone meaner than I am might give you a lot of **** for it if it happens again.

Well after seeing Prodigy's pics, I'm ashamed to post, but my hope is to show how the sun can play with the colors (using a crappy camera). I actually purposely took the pics on an overcast day because I actually like to blue that comes out (I don't think it's dead, but the car does have to be clean) more than the green. You really have to see an MB in person to get the bluish haze.

As a side note, and not meant to hijack the thread, if someone knows the model of my cat-back would you PM me (pretty sure it's an HKS something)?

Not to mention it looks black at night time. The first night i bought my car i was at my friends house around the block from me when my other friend comes looking for me in his mb. So i leave my friends house and im walking home and he comes down my block. I though some1 stole my car already lol so i jump infront of him in a rage and realize its not my car, he was like yo what are u doing lol. i felt stupid. but relieved that didnt really happen

Maybe I should clarify... by "dead", I mean flat. There's no metallic showing, and it's just a basic washed out deep blue. There's no vibrance or sparkle to the paint when it looks blue. Although it may reflect a lot of light and look glossy if clean, even a light coat of dirt kills the shine.

That looks kind of like the PFS catback. Not sure though.

Montego Blue is a color best viewed in person to fully appreciate it.

Agreed. So make sure you never take your MB to West Texas (flat, dry, hot desert)...I did Clean for 20 seconds and then dusty all over again.

Agreed- DO NOT LET MAACO TOUCH THE CAR!! The only decent jobs I have ever seen come out of Maaco is when we would 100% strip everything (glass, mouldings, etc) and do the prep work ourselves. Looked good for about a year until the paint just died and lost it's gloss. They are good for beaters and other cheaper cars, but in all honesty- if I was looking at an FD that was painted by maaco, I would deduct over $2000 minimum off the price.

A proper paintjob will run you from $2k to $5k depending on whether its a repaint or a color change and the shop doing the work.

Nissan tried to copy it and also Jaguar.

It's blue, it's green, it's kinda black all depending on the lighting and how you are looking at it.

pianoprodigy: jesus christ! what are you cleaning your car with to get the paint like this... its amaizing!

anyway, i have a MB rx7, and a MB miata.... the interesting thing is that the miata has a different tint to it... almost a goldish haze in some lights. eitherway, they both look to be an amaizing blue in a few lighting comdition.... the blue REALLY comes out under white flourescent lighting. i love it!

jimlab: what's the difference between your blue, and innocent blue mica? yours seems to have a slight purplish tint compared to IBM.... im pretty sure ill be painting the project FD IBM. i saw one last week at sevenstock, and its to die for. pictures do not do it justice, and when i got my film developed it looked quite different... it seems to be hard to capture the mazda blues properly on film.

Mine is a Chevrolet color.

2002+ Corvette Electron Blue Metallic, to be exact. It's darker than the Innocent Blue (and has a slightly purple tint in some light), but lighter than the Audi S4 "Santorin Blue Pearl Effect" (no ****, that's the name) that I was also considering. It's actually quite a bit darker in most light...

I had a 1/10th scale R/C body painted with each color so I could compare them side by side and decided to go with EBM. Also, I had a deposit on an EBM 2002 Z06 before I decided to go out of state to get a deal under MSRP and ended up with Torch Red instead. I liked EBM so much that I was pretty sure that's what I wanted to use on the RX-7 anyway.

MBM is very nice in that it is a subtle way to "dress" the Rx7. Whereas Red is very unoriginal, Yellow is..well..yellow and screams "look at me!", I think MBM (since it's most of the time: Green) has more of a gentleman's sports car look. Hard to explain.

Nothing beats black though. Every freaken car, sports car or FWD crappy honda, looks better in black. Which is why Batman's car rocks.

And as awesome of a color IBM may be, it's too loud, and would get old IMO. I won't say much till I see it in person but I do know I take to the less "screaming" colors more.
