Question What is the Clarion Box in the Center Console???

I removed my center console and dash yesterday and found a small metal box near the end of the center console labeled "Clarion". Does anybody know what this thing is? It looks like it is part of the stock radio or security system as it is plugged into a factory harness. I will try to post a pic later today...anybody???

It's referenced in this thread too....

TIA!

It's the stock amplifier.

If you unplug it, only the center speaker doesn't work. You don't have to bypass it or anything to make the "regular" speakers work.

BTW, the bracket that it's attached to does also serve to hold the center console. I removed it with the amp, then realized my folly .

And the stereo sounds like mud because the door speakers are practically on the floor.

If you unplug it (on my car at least), there's a drastic reduction in volume. You are correct that you don't need it to make the main speakers work, but the amplifier is necessary for the 1995 stock stereo to play at full volume (again, at least on my car). With an aftermarket stereo, you just bypass it with a harness adapter.

if the door speakers suck and sound like they are buried, with an aftermarket system I recommend an AudioControl ESP-3 spatial restoration sound processor. these are amazing, perfect for the FD, it brings the sound out and restores the sound field to almost a live music type enviroment. can't go wrong. just my .02
