What Cat Converter to buy?

Hey guys,

I had recently made a thread about finding a place to get my exaust leak checked out. Well it turns out that the previouse owner bottomed out the car and broke my cat converter.

The problem that I am having is that when I took it in to the mechanic they couldnt find a part that would bolt on properly. The only on that looked like it might work was the one on the RX7 Store. The stock one I have right now has air injection and a pyrometer so I sent an email to the store but I was wondering if anyone knows how well this certain Cat converter is quality wise and if they know of any others that I can use.

Its a RHD but it doesnt seem to matter with the exaust so I think I got lucky on that one.

Hope to hear from you soon

Brian

Yes. It's proven, just do some searches on it. I had one, now I wish I never sold it.

It will work with the stock twins and it has a connection for the air pump.

bonez cat converter

I have one for sale if you are still interested. Got it from Chris Ott at rotary performance before I went to midpipe. Works fine with twins. I used it for less than 8 months and have had it just sitting.

Sweet sounds like its a done deal, time to dip into the loan some more and get this part ordered. Its seems like a pretty simple install if I can get the car up off the ground. Save the money and do it myself or take it to a muffler place and pay for them to do it?

Im looking forward to getting my hands dirty but I dont wanna mess anything up lol. Im buying new gaskts for it as well since there so cheap anyways.

If the original cat has not come off in a while, it could be a chore to remove it. The actual job is not bad if the original cat comes off without a hitch.

Are you still running on stock boost/ ecu? wont changing to the bonez cat cause boost spikes since it flows more air if you dont have a precat? which im pretty sure you dont have since you have a rhd? not sure when jdm versions stopped having cats

The bonez cat is fine with stock boost/ecu, some people can get away with a fully aftermarket exhaust with the stock ecu, and maybe an air intake if they get a good boost controller to go with it. And by full exhaust I mean3" DP, hi-flow cat, and catback. You just have to make sure you have an after market boost controller to keep things around 10PSI.

^ from my understanding the stock wastegate on the twins must be ported for anything less restrictive than the stock cat. Ive always read that the stock wastegate isnt large enough to exhaust enough air and that even sometimes when ported still will allow boost spikes.

To be honest I have no idea, I was driving a 12a steetport before I baught this and havent dont alot of research because of all the random stuff happening lately. It has an ECU on the passenger side and a Greddy gauge on the steering console but because its imported I hav no idea.

We noticed some corrosion on the screws when we were taking a look at it so im assuming its going to be a pain to take out. I just dont know how much extra I can spend lol. Be nice to hear her run normaly tho.

Soak em over a couple days in some PB blaster, put it on a lift and grab a cheater bar.

I mean it's only 4 large and 4 small bolts at the most, it ain't that hard.

Well, and the aluminum crossbars, but thats no biggie either.

if anything all he needs to do is change the wastegate pill with a holly carb jet. after my full exhaust the boost went up to 11 psi no spikes so I changed the wastgate pill perfect 10-8-10 pattern now no spiking even on cold days.

OP just get some DEI exhaust wrap to wrap the middle section of the cat and go over it with their silicon spay paint crap. That blocks most of the heat and the silicon spray keeps it nice and dry. Im going to do that with mine when I get around to changing the gaskets down there, and I expect cabin temps to drop a bit as a result, but really its not too bad, especially since your up in "the norther wastes"

oh and dont bother with the stupid SS ties they sell, just go pick up some screw type clamps from a hardware store. Cheaper and it'll work better

^ aint that the truth.... jesus one of the things holding me back on replacing the busted DP studs is the fact that I know they're gonna be $15 a piece, and then there's the lock-nuts that go with them. That and that gasket is like $90 on top of that
